I-40 opened about half an hour ago. It's going to take several days to clear the wreck and rebuild the track. I-40 wasn't damaged but was closed due to the danger of explosions. The site should finally be safe for recovery crews to approach.

This is going to be several days. They're waiting for the propane tanks to burn out. Not that Amtrak communicates well, but they were offering an opportunity to return to your origin if you wanted. Bus substitution is tough because I-40 is also closed. There's a detour but it's over two lane...

Yes, that's the location. The train was going north on the west branch and hit a stopped train on the right track, going by the news footage. It went through two switches. It was either supposed to be on the left track (first switch set wrong) or on the east branch (second switch set wrong).

Seems to be engine failures. Had to leave an engine in Gallup a few days ago which was picked up by the next day's train.
