And just for a few miles of 100 in Rhode Island and then just eastward only between Davisville and East Greenwich. Otherwise just 90 max east of New Haven to Boston. West was 79. Probably a political or contractual requirement to have a max speed of 100 mph. Silly really.
Check out wx4.org. It’s got thousands of timetables. Mostly employee timetables but also many public timetables too. And they show links to just about every other timetable website out there. Be forewarned. You will get addicted to this site. It’s wonderful.
TGVs are limited to 17 tons axle load. We could design to that but we don’t. The British HST diesels were just over at 17.5 tons. So even a diesel is possible. So the tracks get beat up pretty quickly.
I’ll second this. And I’d also recommend the Pacific Surfliner Cabride DVD. trainvideodepot.com has it. 3 hours all from the front end from LA to San Diego.
I think this picture may have been photoshopped. The Amtrak gallery cars as people noted were ex-CNW built by Pullman Standard and were smooth sided, not stainless steel fluted sides as in the pic. The fluted galleries were built by Budd but I don't recall Amtrak ever having fluted Budd...
Hi. Not sure if you are still working on this project (sorry I just saw your post today), but check out the link below. It's a history of NEC running times published by the FRA. It only goes thru 1984 but that covers much of the non-electrified history. Note this shows running times/average...
Only thing you need to be aware of with the Route option on Amtrak.com is that it is not really by Route but by train name. So there may be more trains between cities than you would get at first glance. For example, between Chicago and St Louis if you select Lincoln Service as the Route, you...
I seem to recall reading somewhere that the French use cylindrical wheels on their TGVs, although now I can’t find any reference to it on the internet. Does anyone know if my memory is correct? If so, could that be part of the problem?
Although I’m glad to see this, it’s ironic that it’s just a minor improvement over the 100 mph speeds my grandma experienced on the Hiawatha behind steam in the 1940s.
Eurostar requires their train service managers (conductors) and drivers (engineers) be cross trained and they take turns switching jobs when they turn around.
You mean like the Southwest? I just attended an economic conference where they were concerned about long term investments in the Southwest because the Southwest is literally running out of water. I have relatives in Vegas and I often visit Lake Mead. It’s now dropping about a foot every...
I remember a Fox32 (Chicago) News interview with Randall O’Toole several years back. He was so outrageous that even the Fox News folks were openly laughing and mocking him. When Fox News considers O’Toole silly you can safely say he is silly. Nothing he says stands up to any analysis. Even...
I would agree that such expenses should not be included but I can't see where they are being included. Can you point me to where you are seeing that? Thanks!
