    Brand new!!

I suggest that you check out this Southwest Chief route guide which used to be available from Amtrak until it was discontinued but fortunately it is still available thanks to Christopher Juckins' website. Be on the lookout for elk from around the Colorado/New Mexico state line at Raton Pass...

Do long distance train attendants get to sleep?

Except on the Texas Eagle where the sleeping car attendants change at San Antonio. One works the Texas Eagle sleeping car between Chicago and San Antonio and another works the car between San Antonio and LA. The same is true on the VIA Canadian where the sleeping car attendants change at...

That sounds great. Some of us thought you might be mistaken but you were right on track and ahead of the curve. Welcome to AU and please post of report of your trip. Hope you have a great trip.

    Brand new!!

If you are going to Las Vegas, New Mexico. You are all set. The Southwest Chief will take you there and Las Vegas is a great place to visit. If you are going to Las Vegas, Nevada by Amtrak you will probably have a bus connection at inconvenient hours and while some do that, you may want to...

    Texas Eagle discussion

I don't recall hearing any speculation to that effect. I will believe it when it actually takes place if it ever does. But corrections would be welcome.

    Cardinal discussion

Is this a new practice? I have only encountered this one time and it was considered an aberration then. The other dozen or so times I have been on the Boston sleeper on the Lake Shore the bedrooms were forward. Then again I have successfully avoided the Lake Shore since our last trip in 2019.

Replacement of Sudbury - White River RDCs

I recall that the restaurant in White River is at a gas station on the Trans-Canada Highway in the vicinity of the motels. I seem to recall only one restaurant but it has been quite a while since I have been to White River so corrections and updates would certainly be welcome. In the 1970s...

Replacement of Sudbury - White River RDCs

I understand that there are two motels in White River, both of which are on the Trans-Canada Highway and not near the station. The motels are about a ten minute walk from the station as I recall (I have walked it several times) but it is bit far for anyone who has mobility issues. I understand...

So it is akin to a picnic car but the food is worse than at your normal picnic.

Replacement of Sudbury - White River RDCs

Does anyone have an update on what I understand is a plan to replace the venerable VIA Sudbury - White River RDCs with conventional equipment? There seems to be a discussion on some other lists that the RDCs are supposed to be replaced by a train consisting of either a locomotive and a single...

    Wash Racks and dirty equipment

This hardly seems to be rocket science. There are several companies which provide railcar washing equipment but obtaining and maintaining the equipment has obviously not been a priority for Amtrak management. https://www.whitingsystems.com/automatic-train-washing-systems

I agree with the Advocate - two days for an important international flight. One day would be okay for a domestic flight on a well travelled route. And I agree that the California Zephyr would be the best route to take and it would be a great trip to take the Zephyr to the Bay area and then...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I see a further report on another list that appears to indicate that 449 (28) had no Boston sleeper. Perhaps there has been a mistake in dates or perhaps the Boston sleeper has been discontinued without fanfare.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I see on another list there is a post indicating that 448/48 (27) had no Boston sleeper. If correct, it will be interesting to see if today's train - 449 (29) - has a Boston sleeper since there is apparently no spare kept in Boston.

Amtrak must be the only form of transportation where you need to pray for rain. Maybe people will start showing up at stations offering to squeegee your window for a tip.
