Amtrak wins takeover of Washington Union Station

Grimshaw does some pretty nice - and in many cases, innovative and impressive, such as Waterloo International, projects - I'll have to look for more plans and renders of this, the rendering in the article was only ok, but they are very competent transportation architects so it should turn out...

MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) discussion

Just had a successful jaunt on the T yesterday from the airport to the North End and back (work trip with extra time) - no snafu's like last time and went to new stations. However, the Green Line trains are really looking ratty, tired and, compared the rest of the world, majorly dated. That...

    Colorado planning

Ha, yes! But still a nice job. Funny, I was running arounds yesterday and we saw two Trailways buses nearly simultaneously - one crossing over and another merging and was thinking of the various threads here.

Whoever drew that sign did a nice job with it!

How far can they extend the Amtrak California Capitol Corridor?

Interesting, thanks for posting. So, question, it's not totally clear to me, would this be Amtrak California running the trains or perhaps Caltrain?

    Tampa Union Station

I can't find a reference right now, but was there, at one time, another causeway or bridge for rail across the bay between Tampa & St. Pete? Or was that road/street bridge that was abandoned (what I remember from being told when I visited)? (edit) Interestingly, I found a reference to a...

Gateway Project/New York Penn Station capacity improvement

Fascinating - Kolkata looks so intriguing. Must get off my duff and go.

Gateway Project/New York Penn Station capacity improvement

Usually pulled at an endpoint (some, I think, can be disassembled). Off topic, but they developed a TBM that could do rectangular sections for a project in Hong Kong recently.

    Steam train near Chicago 5/6/24?

This is pretty cool - though I will say it's very "rainbow fleet" in some ways.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

Seems to me this is just a one time deadhead. If there are chronic and consistent sell-outs between Chicago and Milwaukee, maybe it's time to really fly between them and get Metra to extend all the way.

    Texas High Speed Rail

This is actually a great suggestion for a multi-use corridor.

    Midwest Corridor discussions-proposed.

Metra (and even the CTA) cover most of the park & ride needs of the Chicago area.

Connecticut Inland Route and Albany - Boston Corridor (Compass Service)

In the article West Point posted it mentions making decisions about new station locations - that, along with land procurement, design, bidding and construction of said stations will take a couple years at least.

    ABB Scandi/Adtranz/Bombardier IC3 Flex discussion

LOL'ing at "the longest sauna in Sweden" comment, which, btw, is apparently absent in the Swedish version (will check more later on that).

Mexico's Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) project

Are they using like old Metroliners or Amfleets? Looks like they are buying a lot of second hand stuff from around the globe! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tren_Interoce%C3%A1nico I'll have to post later, but I've seen a proposal somewhere for Baja California rail!
