I realize that, I’ve been on the train probably 25 times at least. An 825 departure should warrant a breakfast service, imo. Not the end of the world though obviously.
That’s a shame. They give you breakfast on the Crescent leaving NOL at 0915. Now granted it’s a flex meal so it’s easier. But they could do something - voucher for lounge car items, etc.
I just hope the Sunset gets its transition sleeper back. They’ve priced me out of taking the train NOL-LAX with the $1000+ prices ever since they went to only one sleeper.
Thankfully I don’t take any vacation time in the traditional summer months (June - August) so I can still find decent deals in a sleeper.
In the second week of May I’m doing EMY-CHI for an even $600. I feel that’s an adequate price for the service and experience. Anything more is really pushing...
What do you all think a proposed/tentative schedule would look like from FTW to MEI, assuming the current Crescent schedule is unchanged?
Here’s what I came up with. I just listed a few of the stops. The times would not be great for the DFW area if 19/20 don’t run with a new schedule, but...
Crescent is running with three coaches. Two are in use out of/into NOL, and the third is saved for ATL passengers. The train used to have four, pre-pandemic. Sleeper capacity is actually up due to the rooms sold in the bag dorm.
If you’re too cold, you can always add layers. If you’re too hot, you’re out of luck. There’s nothing worse than an overly hot roomette. On a few occasions I’ve had to move rooms because it was so hot I couldn’t sleep due to sweating.
Crescent should be running the entire way daily in December. Usually mid January to mid February it only runs ATL-NOL on Fr/Sa/Su, with the other four days a bus substitution, due to NS track work.
My trick is to hang up two dark shirts on top of the curtain next to each other, so just about all of the remaining light is blocked out. It definitely makes sleep a bit easier for me.
Does anyone know if the Sunset will ever get its second coach or trans dorm back? I’ve been hesitant to take it in coach ever since they took off the second car (thus virtually guaranteeing you’ll get a seat mate) and the sleeper prices are absurd, since the trans dorm was removed.
