I'll mention the Jackson, MS station that Amtrak shares with Greyhound. It was redone 10-20 years ago and looks really nice both outside and inside.

We would prefer bedroom, but if it saves a lot, a roomette would be fine. We are pretty open about going whenever. It would be post pandemic when things (hopefully) get back to a daily service. We definitely want to go during a dead period during the year, whenever that may be.

If I wanted to redeem points for a roomette from Jackson, MS to Seattle using two zones, would I be able to go CONO-CZ-CS? Or would I have to take the more direct route of CONO-EB?

Now that my trip is just about finished (a little ways outside Longview) I'll post my opinion on the dining service from two different trains. On the City of New Orleans, I had the jambalaya for dinner, and it couldn't have been anything more than food out of a can. Very little rice included...

Currently on Texas Eagle and was on City of New Orleans yesterday. Both trains did the same thing and it was appreciated.

I eventually took a shower around 4 in the morning. When I was finished, the door was fixed and was not an issue the rest of the trip. Only during a few hours in the middle of the night. Hopefully that particular conductor wasn't lying to me or just being lazy.

On 58 this morning. Only thing offered for breakfast is the "continental" breakfast. Choice of cereal and drink. That's it.

Finally found the conductor. Asked if there was anything that could be done. He said it's broken and there is nothing to fix it. There is so much noise and humidity coming in, it's a wonder anyone can sleep through it, but apparently I'm the only one who can't. The curse of being hot natured...

I'll see if I can find anyone. Taking a quick look a it, it looks like it tries to close, but gets caught on the floor. Took a walk down to the SSL, and it is absolutely freezing compared to our sleeper.
