Last month my friend and I took the Crescent from NOL to NYP. We got word the night before that the train was actually going to be a bus between NOL and ATL due to heat restrictions, which dampened our spirits some. They did give me a $200 voucher though for the change in equipment, which I’m putting to use for my next journey.
There were two buses, one express to ATL making just a lunch stop in TCL, and one local bus serving all of the intermediate stops. We hopped on the express, which got to ATL at 7:00pm, so we had over four hours to kill until the train boarded. So we took a walk down Peachtree and found a nice bar to kill time in.
The Crescent started boarding at 11:30pm with a big crowd. I was very excited since it was going to be my first time in a V2 Roomette, in the Bag Dorm, and I just have to say, what a difference compared to the regular Viewliner! We both loved the room, and the car rode so smoothly, with none of the usual rattles. From now on, I’m going to always request the Bag Dorm (1912 and 2012 car) when riding the Crescent.
We were on time all the way into NYP. Breakfast was served after Greensboro, and lunch an hour or so before Washington. Obviously not full Dining Car service sadly, but we both thought the meals were fine. The service was great by the SCAs. Overall, an enjoyable journey, even with the bus. We just took it in stride. Things happen.
