Nice collection of very useful links Thank You. It's sad Amtrak insists on making their website so user unfriendly. Their page with schedules is better than nothing. I just cannot comprehend why they would force customers to look under every rock to try and fine info. Even on this schedule link...
I rode the Canadian first time Tor-Van in December '24 after buying tickets on sale about early November. This could possibly be our best trip ever and we've taken a lot of rail trips. We had cabin for 2 and there was about 40 sleeper passengers and about 13 coach passengers. 4-5 sleepers...
I am really happy to have, appreciate and refer often to the Fare bucket list that niemi24s puts on here and the California Zephyr fare chart he did for April and May of '24 is great but the work to do this must be very time consuming for him. (Thank You) There is really no excuse a huge...
There is plenty of room in F for two carry ons and is what my wife and I used on December 6th departure in F. I personally think two carry ons in other cabins for 2 would be a bit tight.
Makes me wonder if any authorities at Amtrak ever did a fare search on Amsnag when it was operating and discovered a snafu like this and then had it corrected. A shame Amtrak can't hire an IT person to bring their website up to the 21st century.
I too am of the opinion if budget and time allows spend 1 day in the LA area or catch Pacific Surfliner down to San Diego and spend a relaxed day. Then catch the Coast Starlight the next day.
I don't think the majority of the traveling public would agree with Amtrak being affordable. I thoroughly enjoy riding but it is not feasible to ride from midwest to either coast for purely transportation when the roomette prices are typically way over $1000 per room. A high priced airfare would...
I believe the only way to predict Viewliner I or II is contact Amtrak Resvations and ask how many rooms your car has 12 Roomettes = Viewliner I and 11 Roomettes = Viewliner II. Snacks and drinks are kind of personal preference items but you can have adult beverages as long as they're consumed...
My wife seems to enjoy it, she would spend more time riding on the open platform on the rear of the train than anyone else in the car back in the days when it was still allowed. Nothing like the scent of brake smoke to spice up an evening! lol
