    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2 - 2025

Amtrak #6(05) was reported to have been damaged by a boulder in Colorado yesterday. #5(05) was blocked by the stuck #6 and apparently helped move the eastbound to a spot it could get a new engine. Both train were delayed by several hours. This video by High Plains Model Railroad Club shows...

    Phase VII car repaint status

Two HHP-C cab cars have left the paint booth in Phase VII. I found this video by Northeast Trainmen that shows one HHP-C in Philadelphia on March 1 and another one at Wilmington on February 22.

    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2 - 2025

I caught Amtrak #6(03) east of Ottumwa, Iowa this afternoon with a Union Pacific locomotive leading AMTK 71 and 167 in new paint. It was reported elsewhere that 71 was the one with engine troubles necessitating adding UP 9020. The Zephyr was almost six hours late when I saw it. Most of the...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger Locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2H 2024 - 2025)

I caught Amtrak #6(17) east of Ottumwa, Iowa today with new Charger AMTK 370 behind the P42s. It's been a while since there wasn't two new ALCs moving at once on the Zephyr.

    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2 - 2025

I don't think I've ever seen a report of them swapping freight locomotives at Denver for an Amtrak train. In fact, not too long ago, they added a BNSF unit in front of an ailing Union Pacific unit.

    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2 - 2025

I caught Amtrak #6(10) east of Ottumwa, Iowa this (Sunday) morning being pulled by a Union Pacific SD70M and one Amtrak P42. I think I saw that this Zephyr started out this way when it left Emeryville.

    California Zephyr discussion 2024 H2 - 2025

I caught Amtrak #6(06) running over five and a half hours late out of Ottumwa, Iowa this afternoon. Pulling the train was a BNSF AC4400 and one P42. I saw elsewhere that the other P42 was dropped off in Denver.

    Following Anniversary Engine #164

I caught AMTK 164 today working as the second engine on Amtrak #6(26) as it was running three hours late out of Ottumwa, Iowa. The other locomotive on the train was UP 6617 as the leader. Apparently this Zephyr originated in Emeryville this way.

    Quad cities train in news

Apparently the federal funds for the Quad Cities service is set to expire at the end of the year. A few Illinois federal lawmakers are trying to get an extension. One of the largest hold-ups over the years as I understand has been negotiations with host railroad Iowa Interstate. Earlier this...

First run of the season for the Winter Park Express was this morning. Michael DeMarco caught the first ski train arriving at Winter Park. There were also a couple local news stations at Denver Union Station: FOX31 and CBS Colorado.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger Locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2H 2024 - 2025)

It was facing the same direction on both trains, so I see no indication that 341 was wyed. What I have seen is that 341 was dropped off again, as it was spotted sitting at Denver Union Station yesterday.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger Locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2H 2024 - 2025)

To update on the Zephyr Charger; the unit, AMTK 341, did not stay with #5(10). I read it was dropped off at Lincoln, Nebraska. #5(12) evidently picked it up last night as Marne_KJ-80701 caught it at Fort Morgan, Colorado this morning.
