First traveled by train with my mother and grandfather to New York in the 1950s. Had the good fortune of riding on the same 1950s sleeper in the 1990s. Have since traveled to D.C. on the Cardinal (It's maiden year) and with my wife to Flagstaff and Salt Lake City. Enjoy the camaraderie of the shared meals in the dining car/ regret the fact that meals are not prepared fresh as they once were in the early days of Amtrak.
