We enjoy Amtrak and ride about once a year. Trips are always long hauls. Our favorite though, is VIA Rail. We ride VIA at last once a year, usually round trip Vancouver to Toronto. We typically take a short run to Niagara Falls while in Toronto, and a Blue Jays game if they are in town...

I put our travel together online, and then I call VIA Rail. That way we can talk about which room we will actually get. The agent can also double check my itinerary and let me know if I have any discounts available in my account that would reduce the fare. I've never been a fan of doing it...

We ride the Canadian about once a year, sometimes one way, sometimes round trip. We usually take Amtrak Cascades from Seattle to Vancouver, spend the night in Vancouver, and catch the train the next day. We always get a cabin for two. Beautiful old sleeping cars. The dining car is beautiful...
