They might well allow it anyway, cannot hurt to call and ask.We don't have FLEX tickets so probably cant take advantage of it anyway.

Book by October 31, 2024 for travel November 1, 2024 - January 31, 2025The companion Flash Sale is now ending on 10/31. It ends too soon for my trip, hopefully, it is helpful for someone!
Should be either. It only requires a one rail fare and the accommodation charge. It isn't a coupon that gets used up.Does the current sale allow a free companion for a round trip in roomette? Or is it only for a one-way ride?
If you were to book 1 roomette for the 2 of you, you'd probably want your son to take the top bunk, as he would doubtless be a bit more agile than you. He would have to scrunch up a bit, though, as he's taller at 6'6" than the length of the top bunk at 6'2".NYP-CHI Card, CHI-SFC CZ
I've booked the above trip in a roomette for Jan 24 for myself and I'm really looking forwards to it. Over a few beers in the pub last night, I mentioned to my son that Amtrak are now offering free companion tickets in roomettes, so my ticket could now become Buy 1, get 1 Free. At which point, my son completely stumped me by saying "I really fancy doing that with you Dad. Can you look into it further"
Costwise it would just cost me an additional flight to/from England and he'd be able to use the hotels that I've already booked in NYC & SFO.
Here is the rub. I'm 6ft3in and 18 st. The boy is 6ft6in and also 18st -- how realistic is it that the roomette could accomodate us ?
p.s. Plan B is going to Rome for a long weekend to watch the Italy vs England 6 Nations game if the joint Amtrak tripdrops into the "nice idea, but you're to big to comfortably do it" category.
Well, I sure am uninformed, lol. I just booked a roomette from Southern Pines, NC on the Amtrak app to Toledo, never saw a companion fare, and probably paid too much?I've also been having an issue where the app does not show the correct price for two, even when the "discount" code is entered.
(not that I would book sleeper travel with the app, but I do like to use it to check the prices)
Call and "Modify" your Reservation, you should get a Refund for the difference!Well, I sure am uninformed, lol. I just booked a roomette from Southern Pines, NC on the Amtrak app to Toledo, never saw a companion fare, and probably paid too much?
For Jan 2025, Big Foot and I are taking the SouthWest Chief CHI-LAX, then the Coast Starlight LAX-SEA** and we've gone for the Family Bedroom option on both legs, so all should be good.If you were to book 1 roomette for the 2 of you, you'd probably want your son to take the top bunk, as he would doubtless be a bit more agile than you. He would have to scrunch up a bit, though, as he's taller at 6'6" than the length of the top bunk at 6'2".
I've heard of people using the child-size bunks in the Family Bedroom to extend the length of the adult-size bunks. I'd still recommend that your son take the top bunk (assuming that he's a bit nimbler than you), but you should both have enough length in extended Family Bedroom bunks. Sounds like a good choice!we've gone for the Family Bedroom option on both legs,
