I recall buying a ticket at a small village station in Germany some time in the mid 1980s, and I got a rather pretty ticket issued on multi-colored and patterned stock, no doubt to make it difficult to counterfeit. The destination, price, and date were filled in by hand, and the sales clerk kept the carbon copy.I used to like the pre printed UK cardboard tickets. Each station had a stock of them. They were put into a date stamp machine when purchased. I seem to remember the price was already printed on too, pre-inflation times!
Thinking about it now, there must have been hundreds of pre printed destination tickets at every B.R. station.
