I used to like the pre printed UK cardboard tickets. Each station had a stock of them. They were put into a date stamp machine when purchased. I seem to remember the price was already printed on too, pre-inflation times!

Thinking about it now, there must have been hundreds of pre printed destination tickets at every B.R. station. :D
I recall buying a ticket at a small village station in Germany some time in the mid 1980s, and I got a rather pretty ticket issued on multi-colored and patterned stock, no doubt to make it difficult to counterfeit. The destination, price, and date were filled in by hand, and the sales clerk kept the carbon copy.
