Well, I need help again, please. We would like to take a Fall foliage trip for about 10-12 days. We would like to ride trains from WV North to Vermont, after starting from and returning to Lake Charles. We've never ridden any of the NE trains. Which trains let you see the prettiest Fall...

AGR for LCH to MIA trip

Jim, thank you for your reply. You and others helped me plan our Western AGR trip in March (9000 miles). It was wonderful, so now we want to go East. We've never ridden any of the trains east from Lake Charles. We want to spend some time in Miami and ride as many different routes while going...

    points from LCH to Sas

I'm trying to plan a trial run from LCH to SAS to convince my Mom how great riding the train is. It seems the schedule has changed. Now LCH to SAS is 1:55 pm to 12:05 am. So a roomette wouldn't be necessary, but I want her to see how nice they are. We would stay 2 days in San Antonio. How...

    chart for reward redemption?

Thanks everyone for the info. It helped a lot. One more question- if I go from LCH to NOL to Chi to Cincinatti, or CIN to NYP to BOS to Cleveland, are these 1 zone trips? Thanks again.

    chart for reward redemption?

:help: Is there a chart/page that shows how many rewards I would need for a specific trip (LCH to Boston or Montreal, etc)? How do I know how many rewards are needed if I get off the train in some of the cities? I can't seem to find a simple formula. Thank you.

Things I learned on my first Long-distance train trip

The first thing I learned was to call Amtrak for your train status 1/2 to 1 hour before going to the station. Sometimes the train arrives early, but more often, late. We had a roomette, which is really small (you either sleep or sit). But it does have a closet (about 6" wide), a cubbyhole...

    Last segment of our trip

We rode the TX Eagle from Chicago to San Antonio to meet up with the Sunset Limited to take us home to Lake Charles, La. The Metropolitan Lounge at Union Station is very nice-free luggage storage, wifi, and free refreshments. It was spacious and quiet and the attendants were very nice. We...

#4 of our 9000 mile trip

Another wonderful train! It didn't start out great, because it was late coming from Emeryville and the SAC station isn't great (no lounge). But once we got going, it was a beautiful trip. We saw lots of snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We enjoyed talking to several British travelers. We...

Segment 3 of our 9000 trip

This was our first long-distance Amtrak trip. We couldn't have done it without all the help from these forums, Amtrak personnel, and Amtrak Guest Rewards(covered the whole trip). We arrived 30 minutes late into Portland. As we stepped off the train, an Amtrak employee was waiting for us and...

Segment 2 of our 9000 mile trip

What a beautiful trip! The scenery on this train is just gorgeous-the Pacific Ocean (we saw dolphins and a whale, lots of fruit and vegetable farms. We woke up our second day in the mountains and snow.We went through forests and mountain passes where there weren't any roads. We saw eagles...

Segments of our 9,000 mile train trip

1st Segment-Sunset Ltd. out of Lake Charles,LA. Our journey didn't start very well-the SL from NOL was 1 1/2 hours late. I learned to call for train status 30 minutes to 1 hour before it's due (or go online to www.dixielandsoftware.com). The LCH station is really just a covered area, very small...
