Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

Sounds like an open ticket is what you guys got in the past in this situation. OP could call AGR and ask if they will allow redemption for an open roomette ticket at the coach redemption rate. If the agent doesn't know, ask for a supervisor.

Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

Thanks for keeping me honest. You're right, for trains 5 & 6. ($239 is actually the correct answer for EMY-CHI, via PDX!) So, OP, maybe $155 is a more palatable price for you if you are taking the California Zephyr. Sorry for the confusion.

Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

Would hate to represent myself as a sleeper passenger and be caught eating a free meal, whether during or after the fact, if I could not produce a (e-)ticket stub displaying a qualifying class of service. If the powers that be receive two meal checks with the same room number, and match up the...

Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

Paid travel (his sleeper) and redemption travel (her coach seat) can't be combined into the same reservation. Even the act of the agent "cross-referencing" the two reservations won't change the fact that she will be holding a coach ticket, disqualifying her from taking complimentary meals in...

Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

I called -- it would cost $239 $155 to add a second passenger to a roomette from EMY to CHI. So there you go.

Coach Passengers Can't Visit Roomette Passengers?

A passenger holding a coach ticket would not be entitled to meals. The cost of adding your girlfriend to the roomette is actually potentially lower than buying a separate coach ticket, as add-on passengers to the same sleeping room are guaranteed the lowest rail fare, even if the train is...

    Ocean connection in Montreal

If you absolutely can't spend a night in Montreal, and want to chance the connection, plan to disembark the Ocean one stop short at St. Lambert station. This gives you an extra 30 minutes or so of wiggle room. If the Ocean is late and you know you'll miss the Adirondack, then stay on the train...

    Amazing changing reservation

Ispolkom, out of curiosity, are your phone number(s) up-to-date with AGR for the account you redeemed points from, and could they have left you a voicemail on those numbers by any chance? Generally when Amtrak does a schedule change, a list of affected reservations is sent to supervisors, who...

    AT Booking Strangeness

Always a good idea to mention a location preference, if you have one, as early in the call as possible -- but what you'll find is that many agents don't understand how to request that preference correctly in the system, leading to such assertions as "This upper-level roomette in car A costs more...

what to do in Santa Barbara

Yep, a one-block walk toward the water to Stearns Wharf is a nice way to kill about twenty minutes. There are a couple restaurants and an ice cream shop there, but as noted, there are many shops and eateries the other direction on State Street also. Enjoy SB!

    No Points From Budget

When you get your printed rental contract at the Budget counter, look for something like the following: 2v/7000012345 (assuming 7000012345 is your AGR#). (2v means Amtrak, like AA is American Airlines or UA is United Airlines.) Then, when you turn the car back in and get a final receipt...

Mobile Broadband - NEC - DC to Philly

That stretch is particularly difficult with regard to VZW data -- if your aircard is a 4G one, the advice given to set it to 3G preferred is a good idea. 4G is fast but north of Baltimore it is patchy until you get to Wilmington. Some of those aircards don't deal with the 3G/4G handoff very well.

    Pacific Surfliner Biz Class

If the BC attendant is nowhere to be found, just take your ticket stub to the cafe. A small bottle of wine is one of the allowed BC beverages. Note that only one beverage from the cafe is permitted for free.

    Needles, California Amtrak station

It's safe even late at night. The BNSF freight "yard" is active 24/7 and there are usually some employees milling around. The train stops in the yard and you just follow the crowd past the BNSF buildings and onto the train. Just make sure you don't wait at the old "El Garces" Harvey House...
