Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

    1) Host railroads are often remarkably unwilling to entertain even minor adjustments to timetables, much less minor reroutes. 2) Switching to FEC or going to Miami Central is not a "minor" reroute.

    92 (01/18/2019) Delay

92 held at the KIS station.  Somehow the car in question drove a quarter mile down the tracks from the nearest crossing and was rear-ended by the SunRail train. The driver survived.

    92(10) Delay

Signal/communication issues on the SFRTA, aka Tri-Rail. For a while their dispatch office was completely cut-off from the outside world. Signal system, telephones and radios were down. Delayed lots of their trains, too, though not as bad. All this just one day after their 30th anniversary!

Silver Meteor sold out nearly a year from now

Currently the Meteor operates as locomotives-coaches-food service-sleepers-baggage. The 9811 car will be the second sleeper behind the dining car and well back from the locomotives. The bedroom end of the cars always face forward unless Sunnyside has a last minute swap and puts a car in...

    91, 92 changes due to storm (12/10) / Confused

Indeed according to Arrow 92 will operate MIA-NYP tomorrow, Monday 12/10 while 91 is still canceled NYP-JAX. Not sure why. I had heard 91 was operating normal tomorrow and that was later corrected.

Process of Turning a Train: What Does It Entail?

In theory, the train will be cleaner if you wash it more often (this theory assumes the wash is actually effective which, in my opinion, most are not). Most washes are located on the balloon/loop track or a central track in/out of the yard so might as well get it done when a move is already...

    Amfleet II Refresh

An interior refresh of the Amfleet II coaches will begin in the second quarter of 2019. The prototype is in the wild now. It will be the same look/materials as the Amfleet I refresh. New carpet, seat cushions and all lighting will finally be upgraded to LEDs providing a brighter, more consistent...

Amtrak Riverside Call Center to Close - Jan 2019

I should clarify this a bit.  Amtrak contracted with a third-party call center to answer Amtrak calls. They already have a large operation at this particular facility which is just one of dozens across the US. Not sure how much training they're receiving, but I understand the people were hired...

Amtrak Riverside Call Center to Close - Jan 2019

A new, non-union, call center was recently opened in Florida.

    Amtrak train number 9 & 10?

12 and 13 were used for the Northeast Corridor "Fast Mail" up until the early 2000s. 12 carried passengers and mail from WAS north while 13 was mail-only southbound.

    Safety Patrol Train 2019?

The number of displaced passengers is minuscule this far in advance and they aren't jettisoned without options. Alternate transportation is available on the Silver Star which covers all but 6 Meteor stops. Of those 6 stops, 5 are covered by the Palmetto for travel to/from all points from SAV...

    Hurricane Michael

Yesterday was a bit of a mess in North Carolina due to continued power outages affecting signals and grade crossings between Greensboro and Cary. All trains lost 2-4 hours enroute. As a result 73 and 74 were canceled today.

CSX Derailment West of Syracuse, NY - Oct 12, 2018

CSX derailed an engine and a couple of cars just west of Syracuse, NY earlier today. There was extensive track damage. This caused the following disruptions to the Lake Shore and Empire Service: 49(12) canceled at NYP. 449(12) terminated Albany. Alternate transportation provided as far as...

    Hurricane Michael

Summarizing and filling in some details on the changes this afternoon/tonight. A washout near Danville has disrupted the Crescent while the NC State Service was disrupted by flash flood warnings between RGH and GRO. 19(11) terminated WAS. No alternate transportation available WAS-CLT...

    Hurricane Michael

As far as I know, Amtrak will still refund tickets with no penalty when a corridor train is more than one hour late or a long distance train is more than two hours late. While it does not appear on the Amtrak.com policy page, if you Ask Julie about late trains she quotes this policy.

    Hurricane Michael

92 will operate MIA-JAX only on Wednesday, Oct 10. Train 91 is canceled NYP-JAX on Oct 10. It will operate JAX-MIA on Thursday, Oct 11. 89 is canceled WAS-SAV on Wednesday, Oct 10 and 90 is canceled SAV-WAS on Thursday, Oct 11. 52/53 and 97/98 are scheduled to operate normally.

    Engineer or Driver?

The qualification requirements vary by route. One trip with a pilot would not be sufficient to qualify an engineer over a new territory. Typically there is a minimum number of trips, plus a written exam, plus a ride-along with a road foreman to qualify on a new territory.

    Hurricane Florence 2018

AmtrakLKL was correct, the Star was canceled as of this morning. However, plans have changed again and 91/92 will operate normally on Wednesday, Sept 26, as originally planned. Crews are being positioned. Reservations are back open on Amtrak.com.
