    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I believe the CL has the CCC car which seems to be 1/2 diner for sleeper riders and 1/2 cafe for coach riders. I don’t know if you can use the dining area as a lounge during non-eating times though…. Cross Country Cafe. The downstairs of the CCC is a staff only kitchen area.

I would agree, she throws off a sense of caring, being dedicated, and reliable.

When I last suggested a "hostel" to stay at, some in my family were hostile to the idea, unfortunately. 😞

    Trip Report to Whitefish, Montana

I read the busses now have a circa 2000 Ford E Series chassis under them with a circa 2018 6.2L Ford 😢 No more flathead 6 with non-synchro manual transmission.

Interesting facts and notes in old railroad magazines

@Willbridge That Slumbercrib look amazing! They should bring that idea back, I wonder if any museums have one preserved anywhere...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion H1 2024

I had to go lookup what those MP-70’s were, such an interesting seat layout! Too bad they were setup for bimetal corrosion. :( The lone survivor at the Railroad Museum of Long Island looks like a great trip opportunity, except it is all the way out on the end of the island.

I have never been to the the Indianapolis station. The description seems to sound familiar to Pittsburgh to me. How does Indianapolis compare to Pittsburgh?

    Seat assignment questions

We have the same home station. My last Amtrak ride was last fall, and there is usually lady that opens the station for the train departures and arrivals (unknown if there have been any recent changes). I think she is not an Amtrak employee hence the unstaffed on the station information. She...

New member with trip planning questions

I imagine the term relates to the food used when an Amtrak train becomes delayed and there is not enough food on board to continue normal Amtrak food for mealtimes that were not planned for. The trains carry large tin cans of a Dinty Moore type stew that people call Amstew that are used in case...

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024 H1

I have read if there are two sleepers, then the 31 is closest to the diner. Over the years or seasons, if there ended up being 3 sleepers, historically it ended up with the 30 number and then it was closest to the diner. Last I was riding CZ sleeper so we could take masks off in 2022, we were...

Leaving car (automobile) behind at Osceola (OSC) station for five weeks

There is the suggestion from @basketmaker above to let the police know, but I have not done that personally when we park there. Of course I can’t guarantee you will not have problems, I am only saying I don't see any extra crime risk there that normally exists in a small rural town, which is...

I would still recommend some discretion, https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/baggage/electronic-devices.html "Devices you can't use during your flight ...TVs ...Radio receivers and transmitters" https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-F/part-91/subpart-A/section-91.21...

You could probably bring an ADSB receiver (Stratus/Sentry/Stratux/etc) on board a commercial flight and if you had a window seat you may get it to work. Then an iPhone/ipad to connect to it, Foreflight app, and you will get a moving map with live traffic! There may be FAA rules about having a...

    Planes overhead

I have had flights in small aircraft where the tracking on FlightAware/flightradar24 didn’t start logging until the moment I asked for Visual Flight Rules Flight Following which involves telling ATC your tail number, type, and destination, so that could be a reason small aircraft or military...

https://www.amtrak.com/special-menus-special-dietary-requirements " Kosher meals on overnight trains and Acela First Class are prepared under rabbinical supervision and sealed until delivered to the passenger. Pennsylvanian (the train(s) and route) discussion

I have helped a family member carry on a heavy suitcase to place onto the Superliner racks, kissed, and then got off quickly. As I was carrying the suitcase on, I was telling the OBS/Conductor that I need to get back off, and I did, quickly. I suppose if I had been trapped, I would have asked...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

4911 is supposed to be the first sleeper behind the diner car, and the last I have heard and when I was on LSL a year and a half ago it was a Viewliner 1, so not the newer Viewliner 2 like the the 4912 was. I wonder if the new bedding statement were some better mattresses and blankets or...
