AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

Not "automatic" but my wife sets up a scheduled payment each month for each of our cards on the FNBO website. She specifies amount and date of payment and provides our checking account number. I don't know if that is the same as an ACH transfer or not. This method has been working well since...

Short lived, temporary and seasonal stops

Which is interesting because the Pacific Surfliner (for some trains) recently added the Metrolink stops of Burbank-Downtown (BBK) and Northridge (NRG) on the Ventura County Line. The "Rail 2 Rail" program is still in place.

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

The "Guide to Benefits" that came with my "Preferred" (paid) card and other paperwork states "World Mastercard Cardholder Benefits". It lists the same benefits you mention. Perhaps only the AGR awards (3 points Amtrak; 2 points dining, travel, rideshare; 1 point everything else; 20% rebate on...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

"World" and "Preferred" are the same thing...the fee card. The original cards sent out, including mine says Preferred. "World" is the MasterCard name.

    Upgrading from coach to roomette?

Keep checking availability to see if something opens up, even after you board the train. The other, not guaranteed, is to look into Amtrak's "Bid Up" program. https://www.amtrak.com/bidup

Status of Surfliner Service between Oceanside and Irvine

Chat on the San Juan Capistrano VR camera mentioned rocks on the tracks between Capistrano and San Clemente. Metrolink trains also affected. I wouldn't call that a "false alarm". It's being on the safe side and inspecting the tracks (that would be Metrolink's doing).

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

Only call the number on the back of the card. I think there were some website issues. Yesterday, I tried logging a couple of times on via my desktop computer and the log on failed both times. Used the phone app and logged on sucessfully. This had nothing to do with suspicious activity, I was...

Lesser known Railroad Museums in small towns

Just recalled two museums I visited while in Southern Maryland last summer (2022): Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum in Calvert County, MD https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjA3r2m La Plata Train Station Museum in Charles County, MD (closed the day I was there) https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjA3qNk

    Coast Starlight discussion

Yes, car/room numbers are assigned when you book. You can always call later if you see a lower fare and ask for a refund of the difference.

    Coast Starlight discussion

Generally, you can not choose what side of a train you are on. The cars may be oriented in either direction so a particular roomette may be on the west or east side of the train. There is no way of knowing until that particular train is made ready for departure (Seattle for a southbound Coast...

Effect of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary on Amtrak

Yes, the LA River does do that with a good rain storm. As for the Metrolink Cars, they were sent back to Milwaukee (Bombardier) to be refurbished and now returning to LA. This has been going on for a couple of years now.

Effect of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary on Amtrak

Amtrak has announced "Service Adjustments" ahead of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary for the Pacific Surfliner this weekend. I have also seen mention (on Facebook) of similiar advisories for the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle. Lets hope there is no ground movement down by San Clemente as a result of...

Getting from Accessible Bedroom to Observation Car

Probably not. Besides steps from the Accessible Bedroom, there potential obsticles passing passing through the vestibuls between cars. Beyond that, you need to compare the aisle width to the width of the walker. BTW, my wife uses a wheeled rollator and we are usually in an upper level bedroom...

    Timely Ticket scanning

The other day on the Pacific Surfliner, the Business Class attendant had one of those to see if my ticket had been lifted. He said he couldn't do it himself; he had to go see the conductor to actually have the lift take place.

    Rail Passengers Association Discount Fare?

Although RPA is listed, I don't see a discount code for that. The RPA "discount" is the same 10% as the Senior discount, etc. If you qualify for Senior (65+) no code is needed and would be easier to obtain.

Scanners, Radio and other such tech inquiries

I have "Scanner Radio Pro" on my Galaxy. That said, I always carry an actual scanner on the train with me. Scanner apps require cell service to receive the feed. Scanner feeds are provided by individuals who have set up a scanner somewhere and stream the audio on the internet. There are only...

    Amtrak Alerts and Notices

Yes, Amtrak is still posting alerts on Twitter/X. Just looked, the most recent was 4 minutes ago as I type this. I've never been able to easily find alerts on Amtrak's webpage.
