According to Amtrak's Service Alerts page on their website, the Eagle will be detouring both north- and southbound between Chicago and St. Louis on November 17th (Monday). What is the detour that the train takes?

Questions Cap Ltd and Card trip

Also, on the CL, the ride up the Potomac river valley between Martinsburg, WV, and Cumberland, MD is nice. If the train is on time, you may even catch the Sand Patch Grade in daylight. The CL climbs Sand Patch Grade upon departure of Cumberland.

Anyone know what happened to Silvers on 5/31 South of KIS?

The CONO is mine. I travel from HMD to Chicago on it at least every other month. And I go to the Hammond, LA (HMD) Amtrak station at least once a week to railfan.

    The Ocean: Less Motion?

Technically they could, but as of yet, VIA has not contacted me to tell me that the train is no longer running. Until they say otherwise, I'm assuming that I will be on a train.

    The Ocean: Less Motion?

I am currently booked on the Ocean from Montreal to Halifax on Wednesday, July 16, and returning from Halifax to Montreal on Friday, July 18. I'm optimistic that the train will at least run through July as they let me book a ticket on the Ocean (3 weeks ago) and are still selling tickets for the...

    CHI -all other East?

In my opinion, the most scenic route in the east is the Cardinal, especially eastbound with the daylight journey through the New River Gorge in West Virginia and the journey over Blue Ridge Summit on the old C&O route from White Sulphur Springs, WV, to Charlottesville, VA. The Cardinal does take...

    Two lounge related questions

I was at the Miami station in October on a trip. The first class lounge is closed and there is no separate waiting area for sleeping car passengers. On another note, the staff at the Miami station was very friendly and an attendant even drove the other sleeper passengers and myself to the...

    city of new orleans

Dinner is served southbound out of Chicago, but it is a limited menu. Breakfast is also served on the way into Chicago northbound. It is usually served starting at about 6:00am, and they stop serving breakfast at Kankakee to start cleaning up the diner and getting it ready for arrival into...

Traveling eastbound CHI-WAS - unsure of which train to take.

The Cardinal eastbound is definitely worth the extra cost. It is, in my opinion, the most scenic Amtrak route in the East, especially with the daytime ride through the New River Gorge and over Blue Ridge Summit.

I already know about hurricanes. I was born and raised in south Louisiana. I still live there about half of the year. From May-October, however, I live and work on the live steam trains at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.
