    Greyhound sounding Chicago alarm

Essentially the issue is the "old" Greyhound sold off their stations and leased them back. The Chicago station is on valuable property and Flix can't outbid other buyers who want to redevelop the site.

Looks like it, they've announced cancellations for 8/6.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

The issue is equipment and crews. Amtrak doesn't have a bunch of extra train sets so once one arrives too late to turn they get cascading delays, or have to do a cancellation later to catch up. Operating crews have strict service and rest hours. When the train gets far off schedule they run out...

I think these were cancelled before they started accepting baggage. But if they had, yes, it would be returned since it would never leave the station. But yes, dealing with a cancellation is a pain. You're looking at waiting days or trying to book alternate transportation on your own, which can...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

It depends on the age of your account and what your credit limit is. Transactions that add up to more than your credit limit in one month is considered suspicious, especially if it's a new account. That's even if the current balance never goes over the limit. People who get a card with a spend...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

Credit card companies really don't like you trying to evade the credit limit by overpaying. That may not be your intention but it's how they view it. The credit limit is the maximum they're willing to risk on you. Overpaying increases that risk. How, if you've paid? A common scam is to overpay...

Time Before "X" and Text Delayed Train Alerts

Pay phones were a lot more prevalent, even at unstaffed stations. Looks like 800-USA-RAIL debuted in 1983. Prior to that there were regional numbers but I don't know how helpful they would have been for train statuses. Here's the pay phone at Benson, AZ in 1999.

    Printed-out seat checks

The conductor has had a printer for printing receipts but it's slow. Plus it would use more thermal paper and have wear and tear from printing seat checks. Maybe it's always had this ability but conductors rarely use it. Wasn't the Acela originally supposed to have electronic seat checks, a...

Aramark does all kinds of food service operations. It's up to the customer to specify what price point and how much onsite prep is required.

    WiFi on longer routes

It's certainly possible, but doing it for just a twice a day Amtrak train would be cost prohibitive. Most of the remote coverage is for major highways which gets constant use. I've been on the Sunset in west Texas where there are also long gaps in service. Satellite's problem is maintaining a...

Amtrak long distance trains - Power Socket types

The Superliners were designed back when the only electric device a passenger might have had was an electric shaver or hairdryer. (Some outlets were labeled "shavers only".) Anything using a wall wart was far in the future. A power strip with a straight plug works great for keeping your devices...

BNSF hit with huge fine for exceeding agreed traffic limits

The oil supply was probably originally from Alaska or across the Pacific by tanker with the rail line used for equipment and other chemicals.

BNSF hit with huge fine for exceeding agreed traffic limits

The Seattle Times goes into more detail. The route was built across the reservation in 1889 without permission. The tribe was finally able to get some traction on the issue in the 1970s. They settled with ATSF in 1991 with the above mentioned agreement.
