Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Interesting but seems kind of small for some of the larger electric wheelchairs. Maybe the pic is deceiving.

Future Amtrak Equipment and ADA ideas

So apparently Amtrak has an active survey out there right now asking AGR members their opinions on different types of future sleeper accommodations including airline style lie-flat seats. (No link available)

That was the baggage but the train had two Viewliner II sleepers and those looked pretty bad too. One sleeper had some kind of heavy streak stains coming off the roof and covering the windows and side. They certainly didn't look like "new" equipment and it doesn't seem that Amtrak is taking...

It wasn't just the stickers. The Viewliner II car exteriors looked surprisingly worn as did the engines. On the other hand I am often impressed how good the Superliners still look and they are much older.

Funny. My wife just took the Meteor from Florida to New York (continuing onto Boston) and I was really surprised at how bad the "new" Viewliner equipment is looking. Really shabby.

Did you ever see these? Pretty clever and environmentally efficient. Uses incoming clean water to wash hands and fill toilet. May not be compatible with Amtrak's vacuum system. And since bedrooms cost over $1000 usually, how popular are $2000-$3000 (?) bedroom suites? Is there a discount...

For anyone who may not be familiar with the Superliner Bedroom setup here is a great video that even answers the upper bunk headroom dimension question:

Of course it ran to Penn Station. It also offered across-the-platform transfers to waiting Metroliners.

The bedroom module is 7' 6" wide or 90". A double bed is 53/54" wide. That would leave 36/37" for the bathroom. Plenty of room.

I rode in a dome once on the Northeast Corridor and it was the best ride ever. Sat right behind the engineer:

Just for fun how about thinking about alternative bedroom configurations? I played around with this idea today to see what I could come up with. Top row: Existing Superliner Bedroom Configuration. Bottom row: Alternative Superliner Bedroom Configuration. Here's my thinking. Problems...

Am I correct in assuming that the clearances are even tighter and the claustrophobia even greater in a Roomette upper bunk due to the curvature of the roof?

Future Amtrak Equipment and ADA ideas

True. I still really prefer sitting opposite my wife at the window watching the world go by in an Amtrak sleeping car. Something special about it. I hope whatever they do they use the present Amtrak room configurations.

I thought about that but if you check out the coach seats they recline the old fashion way!

Can't tell if they recline or not.

I'll second that. The typical European across-the-car bed setup leaves you with a smallish window at one end and a claustrophobic long narrow room which also allows only one person to really enjoy the view. I guess for a short overnight trip, like on the Night Owl, it would be okay but not for...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

My very first statement had a fraud charge on it. FNBO took care of it and issued me a credit, cancelled my brand new card and issued me a new one. Check your statements.
