    Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT) (2021 - 1Q 2024)

Why would the Downeaster be B1? It doesn't run under wire anywhere on its route and wouldn't need pantagraphs even if the MBTA eventually electrifies its trackage.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I really love Art Deco. It is so great that the railroads loved it too!

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Here is a revised version of something I proposed two years ago on another website. Some of you might enjoy the concept: THE ENTREPRENEURIAL CHEF Okay it's just an idea but what if Amtrak tries this? Amtrak "gives away" it's dining car service to its chefs. Each chef gets to run their own...

Future Amtrak Equipment and ADA ideas

No. It opens up a whole new revenue stream. My wife is going RT from Florida to Boston later next month. She has a choice of Amtrak coach for about $300 or roomette for $1400! Something in between is definitely necessary. Most people will not pay that fare. Those mini-suites would be...

Rumors about Amtrak move to the MIC at Miami International Airport

Not just rental cars but lots of hotels around the airport too. Many offer free shuttles to the cruiseports the next morning. Very convenient for cruise passengers.

Same day connection from Florida to Boston not showing up

Yeah this is a great reason that good old-fashioned train schedules would be helpful, Amtrak. Really helpful. It's frustrating that a route that once offered two trains a day is not even offering one now. Making this a two night trip via the "Night Owl" or requiring a hotel overnight, kills...

Same day connection from Florida to Boston not showing up

Tried to book a train from Florida to Boston this week. NO SERVICE AVAILABLE! Are you serious? You cannot get from Florida to Boston by Amtrak right now? This is unbelievable.

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

I have been traveling that stretch all my life and I don't think I have ever seen it not having some sort of major maintenance being done and all four tracks open.

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car production, delivery, deployment

Initially you would think that they put something new over the aisle (such as the electrical cable) but because the rooms alternate I would think there isn't that much opportunity to do so but maybe they zig-zagged it in. I so wish they did something about that bar since it greatly restricts...

Florida to Boston Trip, need help with luggage

We used to do this all the time. The easiest thing to do is check your bags all the way to Boston and pick up your stuff the next day at South Station. That may not be that convenient depending on where you are staying but there is a way to drive directly into the baggage area from the...

    Viewliner II Bag-Dorm roomettes

If there was no door, then the baggage area would need to be climate controlled, no? As far as I know the baggage area is not climate controlled so there probably is a door.

Are they not as high? Deep? Wide?

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Would private car occupants be required to get off at the Miami Airport or could they ride the train back to the Hialeah yard?

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Already done. They built a bypass for whenever the road is blocked. See previous posts.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

They disconnected the SW leg of the wye when they put the new crossing in at 28th Street.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

One thing you will find on YouTube is an occasional Silver train with only one engine. Would they dare do that using a new ACL-4 Siemens? No problem fitting then.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

No way to easily back a southbound in right now. You would have to do the loop in Hialeah and then slowly back four miles to MIA. Passengers might not consider that very "tolerable" adding lots of time to their arrival. The wye would need to be rebuilt to make backing in more practical and...

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Supposedly having the baggage car at the rear smooths out the ride in the sleepers. Any fishtailing occurs in the baggage car now. P.S. I must add that there are plenty of places where Amtrak loads/unloads passengers in streets around stations where the platforms are too short.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Thanks that was very helpful but please allow me to question the basic premise. So the entire car is just as strong and safe as any other car out there (800,000 lb). Now the crumble zones are additional to this and will only come into play if there is a catastrophic higher force impact...
