Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

I got it. Yeah I agree. Amtrak needs to pick a scheme and stick with it. Phase III is fine with me and looks good on the new Viewliners.

Why do you say that? Are you saying Amtrak won't order a LD version of the Venture car to replace Amfleet II LD coach equipment? Seems like a logical solution to most of us.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

I can now answer my own question. Just found this video: I think it should work pretty well if the paint schemes match.

I really want to see how those car profiles match up with the Viewliners. Just curious if Amtrak decides on these for LD Amfleet II replacements.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I'm wondering how the "Super Star" is doing feeding 5 sleeper cars. Figuring a max of 150 passengers divided by 3 dinner seatings you are just about at capacity if the Viewliner had the as-designed 48 seats. But with the reduction to 42 seats from the loss of seating due to the poorly executed...

Would Viewliners like these be possible (Or even Useful)?

Using something like the Ultradome would be the maximum in efficiency. It would be like stacking two Viewliners together. You could even have walk throughs on both levels. But as mentioned it might not be easily done.

Agreement between CP and Amtrak about Detroit River Tunnel

So the problem would be sneaky people jumping on and off of a moving train in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere? Makes a lot of sense.

What about the Montrealer (aka Vermonter)? You think that will never come back?

    Lake Shore Limited timetable change

I don't know the numbers of passengers that are going end to end but I have heard that the new "Night Owl" is pretty successful. That's probably the closest barometer we have of such an overnight market train. It doesn't matter if this train runs non-stop or not because it's a short route but...

Agreement between CP and Amtrak about Detroit River Tunnel

Yeah you'd have to run via Aldershot but I've been told that all of the necessary track is in great shape. Map: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8c/CorridorVia.svg/640px-CorridorVia.svg.png

    Airbus paint troubles again

From what I have read, paint on an airplane is heavy and it results in more fuel use. Having unpainted fuselages like American has saves a lot of operating costs.

Agreement between CP and Amtrak about Detroit River Tunnel

Amtrak just made an agreement with CP to run trains between Detroit and Windsor through the Detroit River Tunnel. So a new overnight express train could run through Canada over the Wolverine and Empire Service routes which would allow higher speeds and less congestion than running south of Lake...

    Lake Shore Limited timetable change

But is there a market for an express overnight train between two of the country's biggest cities? With flying becoming more of a nightmare and driving just not a great option (especially in the winter up north), it seems like such a service would be a very attractive alternative especially now...

    Lake Shore Limited timetable change

I had to look up the schedule: https://www.american-rails.com/20th.html#Timetables I guess it was a true limited train not even stopping in Cleveland. In 1956 it was even close to a non-stop express. What if the LSL ran the same way?

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car production, delivery, deployment

If I recall the cars failed at 798,000 lbs pressure. So they were at 99.75% of the requirement. Hard to believe NS couldn't resolve the issue or maybe even received an exemption since the test was so very close, but we all know what happened. I can't find any information on the NS car test...

Special announcement from Amtrak this weekend?

Is that really the best picture they could find? An Amfleet car under a very rusty train station canopy?

    New Rehabilitated Superliners unveiled

The idea is to use the area below in yellow between the bulkhead and the doors on the lower level to fit in two H rooms and a lift to the upper level. (It's a rough sketch and I can't move the left wall in for some reason.) It would seem doable but would need some exploration to see if it...

    New Rehabilitated Superliners unveiled

I came up with an alternative solution on another thread back in April. If you haven't read it: -------------------------------- (Updated) Retrofit or build new Superliner diners and sightseer lounge cars as follows: Sightseer Car: 1 - Replace lower lounge with two HP bedrooms. There already...

H Rooms available to passengers with no disability?

There are several videos on YouTube that show a wheelchair in the H room bathroom. You would have to transfer of course for certain uses which I would think is doable with all of the surrounding railings.
