    EB 27/28 Meal Service

February, 2008: February 2018: I think the meal I had in ‘08 was far better, plus the included champagne back then. But I digress.

3 to 14 no longer a guaranteed connection?

FWIW I just talked to two separate agents. The first had no idea what I was talking about. The second just said “it’s not showing because most likely the trains are sold out.” Which I sincerely doubt is the case.

3 to 14 no longer a guaranteed connection?

Heck, it’s not even bookable anymore on the app. The only routings from CHI to SEA for sale are Empire Builder and Zephyr/Starlight connection in SAC. I wonder, would they still guarantee the connection if you already have a reservation for the 3-14 routing?

Cafe, lounge and dining car hours on late trains-Crescent, etc.

A few months ago I was on 19 and we arrived NOL at midnight. A full dinner (had a nice steak) was served from approx 530 until 7, and the cafe was open until 10 or so.

    Crescent/CONO/Cardinal June Triangle Trip

I want to say they’ve been different nearly every time I’ve been on the train in the past year. Last time it was really screwed up because I was in the transdorm but they subbed a regular sleeper for it so my room number (19) didn’t exist. I ended up being like 10 feet from the locomotive and...

    Crescent/CONO/Cardinal June Triangle Trip

North Georgia scenery on the Crescent around Toccoa is very nice. Be sure to be up for that. Also the stretch from ATL to BHM has nice views...some mountains in the distance, a nice river crossing, plenty of small towns, and a mountain tunnel! South of BHM, mostly forests until just outside of...

Lake Shore/Capitol Limited Sleeping Car Menu Refresh 1/16/19

Well - I’m going to be trying the new meals on the Lake Shore next month. I’m getting tired of the menu on the CONO plus the fact that my room was going to be in the Trans Dorm (no problems with the car per se but it’s just obnoxiously loud on 58/59 with no baggage car) that I’m flying to NYC...

    New Menus on #8

They look great. Same meal choices though, it looks like. On 8 out of SEA tonight.

    Texas Eagle Dining

Here’s a pic of a MAX 8 (top) and a MAX 9 (bottom) at MSY I took recently. Larger engines than the regular 800/900 series plus they sit higher off the ground.

Size of the Western LD Winter Consists

    I’m traveling CHI-SEA on 2/8 and I got room 4 in the 731 car.

Checked baggage being cut from Boston Section of Lake Shore?

I’m planning a transcon trip for February using points and I was looking at doing SEA-CHI-BOS, but I absolutely hate being right next to the engines. I like hearing the horn blow, but from a bit of a distance, not close enough where you have to wear ear plugs. Riding in the dorm car on the CONO...

    Muffuletta on 58?

    It’s served on 59 only.

    National Menu Changes?

On 59 today (same old barely mediocre meals of course) so for lunch just now of out Jackson I just went ahead and bought a burger/chips from the cafe. After I bought it, as I was heading back to the sleeper, the LSA told me “oh I wish you would have told me you were in the sleeper, we’d have...

Amtrak route with least amount of support?

What would be more valuable for Houston and San Antonio, assuming it has to be one or the other: 1) a one-seat ride to Atlanta, Washington DC, NYC 2) a one-seat rode to El Paso, Tucson, Los Angeles

Amtrak route with least amount of support?

What about running the Texas Eagle Chicago-Ft.Worth-Abilene-El Paso-Los Angeles (seems like a quicker, more direct routing), have the Heartland Flyer run OKC-FTW-SAS (CHI-SAS connection in FTW), and like some have mentioned extend the Crescent overnight from NOL to HOS/SAS as to provide one-seat...

Amtrak route with least amount of support?

From what I remember it was going to be a stub train with no sleepers featuring a cross platform connection in SAS. No thru cars. But I could be wrong.
