Well the first car behind the locos was a sleeper. Likely wouldn’t have been an issue if the baggage car was behind the engines, followed by the passenger cars.

I'm thankful for the low bucket prices... was able to get LAX-CHI on the TE in mid-June for $581. That has to be one of the best sleeper deals in the country right now considering it's a three night trip.

As opposed to "Flexible Dining", amtrak.com is showing "Tray Meal" when you click on the details section for these trains. I assume this is just for Sleeper passengers... I guess the meal choices are the same as on the flexible menu? Who remembers the old "Tray Meal Table Service" back in...

Is the PDX lounge open? I thought I had read somewhere that it was closed indefinitely, but I no longer see that notification on Amtrak.com. It’s a small lounge but it was always one of my favorites to spend some time in.
