Sunset Limited - New Orleans to El Paso 6/3-6/4

Second day on the SL and we are on time approaching Alpine. The a/c in my car basically went out yesterday afternoon though thankfully they fixed it in San Antonio. Dinner was good (had the pasta with meatballs). Slept fairly well once the a/c started working! Woke up around 545 and took a...

Sunset Limited - New Orleans to El Paso 6/3-6/4

I’m currently on the SL headed to ELP. Pretty much on time so far just out of Beaumont. I have Roomette #13. 4 of the rooms are occupied by the crew, no transition sleeper on this train right now just one regular sleeper. Coaches are pretty light but people have been boarding at all stops at...

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

I’m currently on the Sunset Limited in a roomette, and just after we departed New Orleans, the SA from the diner came in and said hello. He offered me the continental breakfast if I wanted it. I had already eaten because up until flexible dining started, lunch was always the first meal out of...

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Yep, when I worked as a TA on the Crescent, an AM-1 did pop up on more than one occasion for the short haul riders heading north of ATL. When the train ran with four coaches, two were used on an average day out of NOL, the two closest to the diner. We'd put all pax except for BHM/ATL in one...

    Upcoming consist changes

No, it’s a very recent reservation. Within 2 weeks.

    Upcoming consist changes

I have an upcoming trip on #20 in about two weeks NOL-WAS and they have me in the 2011 car. But as of now the Crescent is only running with one sleeper + the bag dorm. That's a good sign to me that the train will be getting its second sleeper back shortly since the current sleeper is the 2010...

    #7(28) hits sprayer tractor

Well the first car behind the locos was a sleeper. Likely wouldn’t have been an issue if the baggage car was behind the engines, followed by the passenger cars.

What will the LD network look like in FY 2021?

In the appendix A of the letter, it said even the Sunset and Cardinal will be reduced. 2X a week? Seeing as how #1/2 are based in my backyard, I'll just throw out what I'd like to see, knowing full well that it has maybe a 1% chance of happening. But I have to stay entertained somehow. In an...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

What does everyone think? All the daily LD’s go to 4-5X weekly and the Cardinal/Sunset go 2X weekly?

    Are fares dropping?

I'm thankful for the low bucket prices... was able to get LAX-CHI on the TE in mid-June for $581. That has to be one of the best sleeper deals in the country right now considering it's a three night trip.

    Tray Meal showing for #20/51/59

As opposed to "Flexible Dining", amtrak.com is showing "Tray Meal" when you click on the details section for these trains. I assume this is just for Sleeper passengers... I guess the meal choices are the same as on the flexible menu? Who remembers the old "Tray Meal Table Service" back in...

    PDX Metropolitan Lounge

Yeah, that’s not exactly an example of good customer service!

    PDX Metropolitan Lounge

Is the PDX lounge open? I thought I had read somewhere that it was closed indefinitely, but I no longer see that notification on Amtrak.com. It’s a small lounge but it was always one of my favorites to spend some time in.

    Train 934 Emeryville to Chicago?

On 03Feb there is train 934 that goes from EMY to CHI at 1100. Only coach available. Anyone know what this is? This is in addition to the regular Zephyr.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but would anyone happen to have screenshots of old Greyhound/Trailways schedules from New Orleans from the 80’s that they could post? Thank you!!!

New Coach Seating Procedure: Long Distance Trains on NEC

I’ve been avoiding Amtrak coach lately out of New Orleans...and sticking to FlixBus and Greyhound... because I can sit where I want to. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become increasingly annoyed with the coach seating arrangement on Amtrak. Just tired of the archaic system of being being handed a...
