    Accidents can close highways, too

Avoiding I 95 is the reason we took the Meteor from Boca to Baltimore/Wilmington or NYP when we lived down there. You could bank on at least one and usually more than one total storage enroute!

Someone didn't get the memo (Pepsi in Club Acela in WAS?)

I have always been a 7UP fan, but alas, they abandoned sugar too!

    Silver Star Diner

They would then have to show the proper revenue for the meals which is hidden now!

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

Ryan: I think you and I have talked around this before but the revenue is not reduced by serving fewer meals. All the meals have been paid for (revenue collected), when you bought the sleeper ticket. No revenue is collected when you eat the meal other than possibly additional beer, wine or...

    Scrap or Renumber METX #210?

    Wow? You were serious???

Someone didn't get the memo (Pepsi in Club Acela in WAS?)

I grew up in Cincinnati and we called pop or soda “coke “ as in, let’s go have a coke!

Happened on this Date (Jan 4)

Yep, remember that. I was working in Baltimore then (living in Bel Air). Previously lived on Wilson Point not far from Chase.

    Question for the old timers

You are exactly correct. Thanks for the jog to my memory! I remember having around four hours between train and my sister and I would walk over to the museums from the Central Station. Thanks for the correction.

    Question for the old timers

That is a good question. I used to ride the train back and forth from Powers, Michigan to Cincinnati when in college.. The train from Powers to Chicago was the Chicago & Northwestern and the train from Chicago to Cincinnati was the "James Whitcomb Riley" which I believe was the Illinois...

Someone didn't get the memo (Pepsi in Club Acela in WAS?)

Back in the early sixties, I worked at a bottling plant in Iron Mountain, Michigan during the summer. We used real cane sugar in those days and I got a work out hefting 100 lb. bags of it when the sugar was delivered. Mixing the batches was a real art, since one had to be very careful during...

    pre-Amtrak dining

The steak on the Meteor is the best meal I’ve had on AMTRAK but the best meal on a train was on the Canadian on the last night of a Jasper to Toronto trip - a thick bone in veal chop which rivaled any NYC restaurant!

Someone didn't get the memo (Pepsi in Club Acela in WAS?)

We have a restaurant in Simpsonville SC that carries Mexican coke. (Pandaria Las Estrellas). There really is a big difference !

What Will Amtrak Look Like in 2020?

Can I add, more and more stations w/o baggage service??

    Heat in superliner roomettes/bedrooms?

I use a roll of “paint” tape which works well and leaves no residue. Cost wise? Not sure how it compares to duct tape or gaffers tape but I’ve been using the same roll for 3 years and still have a lot left so cost not really an issue.

    #20 (12/31/19) Service Disruption

Once again the Crescent is jinxed. I checked it last night and it was relatively on time to Greenville for maybe the 3rd time in 2019 and now this!

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

This fall we rode the Crescent to NYP from Greenville SC to NYP. We get up early even after a very late pickup in Greenville and got to breakfast right at 6:30 AM. There was one gentleman ahead of us and he got the last breakfast sandwich. The attendant told me that they had almost all been...

    pre-Amtrak dining

Your point about diner revenue for non eaten meals is one I have been talking about for some time. AMTRAK doesn’t seem to have a clue about proper accounting.

Kalamazoo station's ticket window to close in 2020

My biggest complaint about staffing is the elimination of checked baggage. This summer when traveling to the cruise port, the lack of checked baggage made the packing for a long trip, most challenging.

Cross country slide show December 2019

We stayed on the “Delta King” when in Old Town Sacramento. Since we had “cruised” it’s twin the Delta Queen on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, it was a deja vue experience which we quite enjoyed.

Automatic Fare Collection as a Service

I agree with the “ confusion “ thing. My wife and I were in LA and didn’t find out until our third day that we were supposed to be “ tapping” our card. We only found out by accident when talking to a fellow passenger on the Red Line. No one was ever checking but I guess we could have gotten...
