It's certainly disheartening to see trains being less able to operate in winter conditions, as the decades go by. Society should be progressing forwards, not backwards, with basic infrastructure, which is what train systems are! Funding, staffing, training, equipment, whatever the issues are...

Thanks for sharing your globetrotting adventures! I agree with you about loud cell phone conversations in public places. A brief conversation isn't so bad but when it drags out forever it is a form of torture for me.

There was one proactive cancellation of the Wolverine, in both directions, today but it didn't even make sense from a weather perspective so it must have something to do with equipment and crew scheduling.

One other note, they still do a crew change in Battle Creek (both east and westbound) and they are putting more clarity into their cafe car announcements: when open, when closed, and for people not to expect to camp out for prolonged periods in the cafe booths. only to consume purchased food...

BC on the Wolverines don’t have assigned seats and I assume none of the Michigan trains do. The amenities have ever so gradually scaled back to the point where it has no value now imho.

Society is going backwards, we need to protect rail crossings differently as common sense and basic situational awareness will no longer be a given.

I see this has become a separate thread. So I do want be clear my comment was specific to Wolverine BC. It sounds as if the particulars of BC services can vary quite a bit depending on region.

Pi, I ride the Wolverines 4-6 times a year. In my opinion BC is not really worth the up charge unless you get low bucket, and even more so with no lounge access. Now, the long/loud cell phone convos can happen regardless if you’re in coach or BC in my experience. It’s not a constant though...
