    The Electrification discussion

I'm not sure you appreciate the scale of the works required to allow double stacks on European lines.

    The Electrification discussion

Probably because there's no point in wire that can clear double stacks when there isn't the structure clearance for double stacks...

Amtrak announces Simplified Fares coming soon

Well, you do want to sound confident in your product. Something like British Rail's old "We're Getting There" slogan is perhaps going too far in the opposite direction.

    New York Penn Station v3.0

In further news on the various proposals for a redesigned Penn Station, notorious crayonista Alon Levy (generally considered to be associated with RethinkNYC) has released a 3d model of their design for a Penn Station which demolishes Madison Square Garden and Two Penn Plaza in their entirety to...

    Acela 21 (Avelia Liberty) development, testing and deployment (2018 - 1Q 2024)

I believe the primary difference is that US crashworthiness place/placed much greater emphasis on buff strength, with much higher requirements in that area compared to Europe, where there is more of an emphasis on things like crumple zones.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

Brightline has informed the state of Florida about its plans to relocate 66 workers from West Palm Beach to Orlando by October 4th, which is presumably good news for a start of service by that date...

    The Electrification discussion

The British rail regulator has made it pretty clear that they are not going to approve new third rail electrification outside of cases like the Underground where the risk of public contact with third rail is pretty much nil.

Ideas for Amtrak to raise revenue

They have daily service on most routes. What they really need is twice-daily service (and preferably more) on all routes, with the two trains being scheduled at least six hours apart. That would significantly open up options for connections and tourism as well as ensure that all stations have...

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

I've heard this conspiracy theory about the true motives of RethinkNYC plenty of times but never seen any evidence for it.

Andy Byford's plan for Penn Station

Andy Byford recently made some comments on Penn Station. They've already attracted a lot of attention.
