If the flowers are important to enough passengers im sure there could be a solution that has small light fixture that incorporates a vase/flower holder.

Dont know the size of the alcohol but you can get a soda at any time. The attendant can get it for you or you can go to the cafe car show that your in a sleeper and they will give you a free one as well.

I only have 8 trips under my belt but like others with far more experience than I have indicated, theft isnt really a huge issue. If its locked on the luggage rack it should be fine. Trains are usually arranged so that coach passengers don't travel through a sleeper car and other sleeper...

I have never been able to BidUp on any of my 6 train trips so far. I think that the option is entirely a myth. Unless bidding up from roomette to bedroom isn’t a thing or just happens once every 10 years.

The scenery is indeed better than the utilitarian Eagle route. After I posted that we did also get some time in Charlotsville to walk around while about 20ish people boarded. Not a bad little station.

A bedroom on an Amtrak train will never be worth $3400. I was lucky I guess and when I booked my DC trip from Dallas to DC that leaves Monday I got both the Eagle and Cardinal in a roomette at low bucket. I did a circle trip last October Eagle DAL to CHI, CHI to EMY on the Zephyr down to LAX...

Since Amtrak refuses to offer their explanation this doesn't look favorable for them regardless of the real reasons.
