Must Sleeper types for EM/CZ ?

This one post that you left here right now is one of the best---if not THEE best specific advice tips I have ever read in regard to First Class Amtrak riding. This even helped me and I've ridden plenty since 1976. THANK YOU.

Empire Builder #8 struck vehicle 11/10/21

These delivery companies push their employees WAY too hard to deliver their packages too quickly so that the companies can reduce the number of drivers and save money. I'm sure Amazon doesn't give any thought as to what can result when employees are forced to rush in order to save their jobs.

    Chicago

I don't know about ANY of the other places, but I have eaten at Russian Tea Time right across the street from the Art Institute on Michigan Ave and Adams. If you are into walking, you can use the Union station Adams exit and walk there. It's a bit over a mile. Nice walk too. Russian Tea Time...

Do members look forward to a train trip as much as people awaiting a cruise?

Go to the train station and watch the train pull in to Tucson--a refueling stop. Then I drive about 10 miles north and sit by the track where the train zooms by at about 79mph. I do that every other week or so

So how does that 11 hr 58 minute layover in NOLA work?

That is one heck of a list---thanks. I'm going to have fun looking thru this. But I have to say this--- that list doesn't include for Los Angeles the Metro Plaza Hotel which I am VERY familiar with. Without a shadow of a doubt-- this is the closest, best located to Amtrak and restaurants in LA...

So how does that 11 hr 58 minute layover in NOLA work?

The Plaza? Did you know that The Plaza was one of the filming locations in the movie "No Country For Old Men? That was the Hotel where Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem get in to the big shootout in room 210 and Josh jumps out the window where the shooting continues in the street. This would be a...

YEP---- this is exactly what I do and why I do it too

So how does that 11 hr 58 minute layover in NOLA work?

This is why there should be a list of hotels nearest ALL of the Amtrak connection points nationwide. It could be made by all of us who live in any connection city. Go drive over to the Amtrak station and look for yourself and submit it to the list. No fancy-schmancy places either. Just the...

Need Amtrak trip and route planning help. Who should I contact?

I don't know if anyone has recommended this yet, but if you and your partner both independently apply for the Amtrak credit card that gives you 50,000 points at a cost of $79 (each) --you will then have 100,000 points to start your trip with. Unless you go coach--- this will NOT be a cheap trip...

Height of beds off floor (inches) for handicapped traveller?

Does anyone know of--- or is there a way to find--- The actual size of the Accessible Bedroom WINDOW on a Superliner? I think they might be different sizes depending on if it is the window on the bed side --- or the window on the toilet side.

    Eric & Pat's 2021 Trip Report: San Diego-Toledo-San Diego

I am just wondering about that Comprehensive Railroad Atlas of North America you mentioned. I looked them up on Ebay and elsewhere and found they are really expensive and usually cover just two states. My question is--- is there really enough information in these books that make them worth that...

Craziest Drama on Amtrak you've seen?

Back in late December of 1977 after seeing the movie Silver Streak, I and 3 of my friends decided to take an Amtrak rail adventure using the rail passes Amtrak offered then. If I remember correctly, they were 14 day passes and cost $300. If you got on a train on your 14th day and the trip was 2...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I would HAPPILY trade all those free meals for Internet WiFi on the long distance trains.

I loved those trains!!! I remember how exciting it was to roll into Las Vegas at night.

What train holds the record for latest arrival/longest delay on Amtrak?

Your question here prompted me to start thinking about something else in the "What's the most" train of thought. I think it would make for an interesting pair of "threads" or whatever they are called here. Are there any places here to find something like "My most interesting Amtrak Stories"...
