    Covid Mask Mandate for Transportation

As of now, the mandate ends in, what, two months? My guess is that the likeliest outcome is that it is allowed to expire. (I'm not arguing that this is or is not a good idea, nor stating what I think should or should not happen, just guessing what I think is likely to happen.)

Changes to Amtrak Midwest and additional Wolverine RT

I might have a Wolverine trip to make in October so I'll be glad when those trips show up as bookable.

    Lincoln service speed limit increased

Such a missed opportunity to not have done so when the opportunity presented itself in the 1990s.

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Quite a bit more detail here (Amtrak's fleet modernization plan includes historic firsts - Runway Girl) than we've seen so far. Just staring to read through it again myself, but if true, I'm more than a little surprised about the locomotive plans...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

Someone can check me on the dates but FEC ended passenger service during a strike in the 1960s and demolished the downtown Miami station. Then a court ordered passenger service to resume and FEC used the North Miami station as the southern terminus for however long passenger service survived.

BOLT hands off to Mother Greyhound

Seems like C&J's niche is linking Portsmouth with Boston and New York. It operates both a Boston - Portsmouth route and the New York - Portsmouth route in question. I haven't looked at all the options serving the Boston - Portland corridor but perhaps Portsmouth is underserved by those services.

BOLT hands off to Mother Greyhound

Isn't it a New York - Portsmouth, NH route that stops at Tewksbury (and Seabrook, NH) along the way?

Tampa MSA (3.2 million ish) is approximately twice the size of Jacksonville MSA (1.6 million ish).

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Looks like Amtrak's press release is back up: Amtrak to Transform Rail Travel with $7.3 Billion Investment in State-of-the-Art Equipment - Amtrak Media Reading through the press release, dual-powered locomotives are mentioned (specifically in reference to Virginia trains) as well as a...

RFP issued for Amfleet I replacement

Here's Amtrak press release: Amtrak to Transform Rail Travel with $7.3 Billion Investment in State-of-the-Art Equipment - Amtrak Media Just started to read it myself, not sure how much additional information is contained within. EDIT: Hmm, the release seems to have been removed from Amtrak's...

Boy Scout Trip to Philmont on SWC

A few observations from recent trips through MKE and CHI: About a week ago the Wolverine cafe car was card only (no cash) About three weeks ago the Southwest Chief cafe car was card only (no cash) Food court at CHI is open although there are a number of vacancies compared to pre-pandemic travels

    EMY to San Francisco bus

Is this the building north of the station? Any idea why that change was made? I've only been to Emeryville station a few times but it seems like this would be less convenient for both passengers and bus drivers. Of course, I could just be confused and unable to picture what you're describing.

    Train speeds around San Diego

Bypass what can be bypassed, electrify, run EMUs. EMUs can handle grades better than diesel loco-hauled coaches and can accelerate much better as well.

Business class on a Superliner 393 Chicago to Carbondale on May 30/31

I think it's planned to be built directly north of the existing station. The project received federal funds about 1.5 years ago but I'm not sure if it's actually underway yet.

Did you notice any work on the new station planned in Carbondale?

I can add that that was my experience in Pittsburgh as well.

Eastbound Wolverine showing “sold out” July 19-October - possible schedule change?

CN just owns a brief stretch in Battle Creek, not all the way from Kalamazoo to Battle Creek.

KCS accepts CN's merger offer...What does this mean for Amtrak?

Is there any precedent for one of the conditions for a merger approval to be better handling of Amtrak trains?

The Butchering of Tampa Station - A Bruce Richardson Essay

That was a bizarre anti-high platform rant. Level boarding (whether accomplished through low-floor equipment or high-level platforms) is helpful to (approximately) every passenger, not just those using wheelchairs.

    Amtrak booking website/issues/timetables removed

This has always been a frustration of mine. Looking for the schedule of the Wolverines? Check Michigan services. Lincolns? Check Illinois/Missouri services. And the different Northeast schedules have to be confusing to less-informed folks.
