Will seat cushion need a doctor’s note?

There are some brands of peanut butter that come in a squeeze pouch. It might be a little easier to pack. It's probably what astronauts eat! I think I have an inflatable neck pillow. I wonder if inflatable seat pads are available?

    Tipping on Amtrak

I think all Amtrak employees probably earn something over $40k, based on posts I've seen here. About twice what fully paid restaurant workers make, many times what a server makes. Amtrak doesn't have a tip pool, they don't distribute tips, the engineer doesn't get tips. and as far as I know they...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I know I've seen something about tipping on the web but I think they've removed it. I know they allow tipping but they hardly recommend it. Tip like you would tip your mail carrier, which is also allowed.

    Tipping on Amtrak

Amtrak has an official policy of no tipping. Amtrak employeess have a pretty good deal without tips and with tips it's like double dipping.

FRA's Corridor ID Program and possible new Corridors

They could probably do several expansions for the time and trouble it takes to set up a new line. Maybe that is part of the reason. I was surprised about the Kansas City to St. Joseph line, as I hadn't read much about it. They say would connect to the Missouri trains, but I guess it's a new line.

    Brightline Trains West!

And the Siemens web site notes that the American Pioneer "scales steep terrain" and is capable of maintaining speed on the grades present between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga. Is Brightline going to use these locomotives?

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The web site states you must be there with your car by 2:30p the day of departure, so you could have lunch before you get to the station. The train leaves at 4:00p so you won't have to wait 8 hours. They can depart a little early if all of the passengers are loaded and ready to go before 4:00.

    Winter Roomette Companion Sale

A lot of people complain about the top bunk in Roomettes. It is only 6'2" while the bottom bunk is 6'6". Are you planning on taking any breaks in your travel? You may want it to 'stretch out' for a nite or two after sleeping in the top bunk.

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

Hmm. This might result in more late trains rather than an improvement?

    Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle discussion

The map on the UP web site shows the current route, which goes SE from downtown Phoenix to the current line. They don't show any update to the more direct route. Maybe that will come later.

Canadian Circle Trip: VIA and Amtrak

It doesn't look like the used the venison in the stew, but it that wild rice in the bowl under it? It looks like the stew could use a lot of 'doctoring' to me. Did you have any sauces with you?

Question about connecting time at Los Angeles Union Station

It seems like 3 hours is a reasonable time to get to Union Station. Can you rely on the schedules? I can only say that the Coast Starlight is unlikely to depart earlier than scheduled. I believe that if you contact Amtrak before the scheduled departure time you can re-schedule your trip. And...

    California Zephyr discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024 H1

THey were showing a tanker train derailment in Gilpin CO, on the news. It looked really bad and no casualties but the tracks looked really torn up to me.

Catching the Sunset Limited from the Coast Starlight

Riding a bus would be a big downer, but couldn't the CS be on time one day and then late the next day? so you could end up riding a bus either day.

    Auto Train discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Amtrak would no doubt restrict certain types of hazardous items in baggage, like explosive or corrosive chemicals, etc. Things of this nature are regulated by rules covering all modes of transportation. They don't weigh the cars before boarding and as long as nothing is sticking or hanging out...

Off duty pilot arrested for attempted sabotage

Wouldn't a bunch of holes in a plane's cockpit and instrument panel wreck the plane?

    Salt Lake City Station discussion

It looks like one of the big advantages is reducing the size of the freeway ramps because they won't have to cross over the tracks, no matter how many trains use the station. I wonder if they could run some trains to Wendover (NV) or maybe someplace east on the main line.

    Southwest Chief discussion Q4 2023 - 2024

I transferred from the SW Chief LA-CHI once and barely made it to Galesburg in time to meet the Zepher, even though theoretically I should be able to ride the SWC all the way to CHI and get on the CZ there. The CZ from CHI-GLB might be on time if they don't encounter much traffic, while the SWC...
