    California Zephyr discussion

Yes, perhaps something like this. "Rail Passengers has assembled a “Rail Passenger Bill of Rights,” drawing from prior legislative proposals, existing regulation of the aviation industry, and international models for oversight of passenger rail carriers."...

    California Zephyr discussion

It seems like since they announced the problem several hours before they arrived in SLC they could have had some time to get some kind of relief ready at the station. I wonder how long they took to turn around the train back to EMY?

That would work. I wonder why Amtrak doesn't have a Thruway to the Grand Canyon Village. I guess it would arrive too late.

THis is on the Amtrak alerts... @AmtrakAlerts As of 10:40pm MT, California Zephyr Train 6, which departed Emeryville (EMY) on 8/18, will now terminate at Salt Lake City (SLC) due to ongoing severe weather in the area. For further traveling assistance, please call or text 1-800-USA-RAIL. 10:40...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

I wonder if it is something to do with their procedure? When I cook one at home I cook one dinner in the microwave. Does Amtrak try to cook too many at once? Do they wait too long to serve them? Maybe a splash of Cholula would help that, too. BTW, they have individual packets of Cholula...

Yep, sorry I forgot Amtrak dropped the Williams stop. Still a little hard to understand why. I guess it saves a little time.

Good to know the latest on the operations and menu!

    Freight trains blocking roads

I think some municipalities might have their own laws, but some states don't have a limit. The states that have laws vary from 5 to 20 mins, but the ones that might be a problem are these states that don't have any time limit: "14 States that don’t have statutes concerning trains blocking roads...

    Heartland Flyer discussion

According to the Amtrak web site the Heartland Flyer does have Cafe service. For some reason when I try to see the menu the 'page cannot be found'. They might have food on the plane but by then it will be almost dinnertime.

From Flagstaff either take a shuttle or rental car or go to the next stop on the SWChief and take the scenic train from Williams. Once you get to Grand Canyon Village it's easy to get around on foot or take the Park trams around the rim of the canyon for various sights and exhibits. During...

    Heartland Flyer discussion

The close connections could be kind of 'thriling' if anything goes wrong. There wouldn't be much time for lunch, although there are probably some hospital cafeterias in the Medical/Market center. I'm not sure what kind of menu the Heartland Flyer has but that might be lunch.

Yeah, if the schedule for the TRE works it might be a good ride and if it were me I would probably like to try it. If there's traffic could it beat the Uber? There is a stop a bit closer than Union Station called Medical/Market Center, a 50 minute ride from the Fort Worth station. Maybe just...

    Booking online on Amtrak website

yes, especially the booking part, which is probably the most important part. I try booking and I get a lot of "unable to process.... " .

Why and how often are trains run completely backward?

It might be safer to sit facing backwards in the case of a collision. Either way you sit if you want scenery you need to look out away from the train so I don't see what difference it makes. I think it's important for anyone riding at the front of the train to be facing forward. For the rest...

Various short trips around the Willamette Valley

Looks like a great ride for $5. Is that a County shuttle? Or is it on the Amtrak web site somehow? Do any of the local buses go to the Aquarium or the bay area?

    Crescent discussion

It seems like the welded rail needs some kind of expansion joints at certain intervals.

    Capitol Limited discussion

I can see your point. It's over $300 difference, minus what you spend on your own meals. I would probably only get 4-5 hours of sleep anyway, but I might consider what I need to do on arrival.

    Hello from Tulsa

If they stopped in Springfield MO you could use the train to get to Branson, as well as Tulsa, etc. I have read there is a proposed new large theme park in NE Oklahoma, also close to Tulsa, near Grand Lake. I haven't seen any actual route proposed so I don't know if the route would go from...

    Auto Train discussion

If there's one thing you can count on with Amtrak, things change. Or sometimes they are hard to guess. Maybe when the train is very full they assign seats?
