That looks like the low bucket for the trip, so very good!

They had this one someplace, which was from a number of years ago. It has more detail, but only shows one route from Casper to Billings. I know they only want to route on existing track.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

It seems like they could just have a button on the reservation app for coach dining, just like they have other options.

The map doesn't show the segments very clearly, especially those with the dashed lines. Too bad the map doesn't have better detail.

Garrison Keillor on the Southwest Chief

US 36 is four lane all the way across Missouri now and I've heard it's a good route. There aren't any big metro areas between St. Joe and Denver but parts of the highway are extremely straight for miles.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022 - 2024Q1)

Seems reasonable to me, but I don't require accessibility. Because of the unique nature of trainsets, Amtrak proposes that they should rightly be considered as a whole and not as the sum of their individual rail car parts. In other words, the accessibility of a trainset should be viewed and...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

I know they didn't always have the dining included with sleeper fares, but I don't know if they had a period where it was optional. When I was in school my parents would buy me a lunch meal ticket for a week or month or some other period. Advance meal tickets for both coach and sleeper...

    Future direct Chicago-Florida Route

This map in the Long Distance study pdf shows the travel flows and I think it supports a CHI to FLA route. Looking at this map, three cities without any AMTRAK stand out: Las Vegas, Nashville, and Phoenix. Some city pair routes that look very promising: Dallas- Houston, Las Vegas- LA...

What people generally say is that if the dinner was expected to be served when the train is on schedule then dinner will be served when the train is late.

    Email/Text Notification of Ticket scanning?

Association News Passenger Notice We have learned from a reliable source that, starting this Sunday (August 6th), Amtrak passengers will NOT have their entire trip cancelled if they miss a segment for any reason. (A common occurrence of "missing a segment" is a conductor not...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

So here's what the NTSB says about the crash. I don't think anybody is too surprised. https://apnews.com/article/missouri-amtrak-derailment-report-mendon-4727774baa5ec100eb59e52d61d18428?utm_source=RecoReel&utm_medium=articlePage&utm_id=Taboola Poorly designed crossing contributed to fatal...

I was in Green River last April and there were quite a number of passengers waiting for the Green River Stop, the closest Amtrak to Moab. I made an inpromptu stop once on Amtrak. I was studying the timetable and decided it would be better to get off early about 45 mins before arrival. The...

    Email/Text Notification of Ticket scanning?

Airlines know the passenger is at the terminal if the passenger 'checks-in', via the help desk or app, don't they? Maybe Amtrak should have something like that to confirm the trip at the station or when on-board?

A person could put those little 'zipper locks' on to prevent someone from opening the bag for a little extra security.

    Checked Baggage (luggage) discussion

Are you planning on the 8:40a KCY-STL or the afternoon run at 4:15p? I think they will hold your baggage at the KCY station for the day. The problem is the Southwest Chief can be late getting to Kansas City. The ride in coach west from KCY begins late in the evening and you will wake up near...

    Empire Builder #8 (23) Derailment

In the video from the last BNSF freight to traverse that track the afternoon before the derailment noticeable misalignment can be seen, but in the previous freights and the other EB they don't see any. The railroads say they use these devices on some locomotives, but they don't want to have to...

How much distance between these devices? They don't look expensive.
