    Another Fatality

Sadly, another death, this time in Salt Lake City.

    low or high buckets

Welcome to the board! If you really, really want a roomette, book NOW. Check other dates around your scheduled trip, you may find a lower price. IF there are any roomettes or bedrooms available when you board, you can ask the Conductor for an onboard upgrade. The price is supposed to be the...

    Votes on Amtrak related Amendments

That's good to hear. I know there are a fair amount of Republicans that vote against Amtrak, but it's good to have some vote for it!

Where do you spend most of your time on a Amtrak trip?

Most of our time is spent in the bedroom on the California Zephyr, but we did check out the SSL on our first trip. When we rode the Coast Starlight, we spent quite a bit of time in the Pacific Parlor Car. It is our favorite Car on our favorite route.

    Train layout site?

Gingee, it's not bad having that roomette. It's right across from the SCA, we did not find it was too noisy or busy. Enjoy your trip!

Question About Salt Lake City Amtrak Station

As mentioned before, the station is pretty small. i would get a room. The "Little America" is supposed to be rated the best in hospitality. Yellow Cab is only a block or two from the Salt Lake Station. Their number is 801-521-2100. Enjoy your trip!

    Hard to get a bedroom

Try this website. Try different dates. You may be able to find a bedroom that way. Sometimes people will cancel, so keep looking. In the meantime, get a roomette. There is also a slim chance of an on board upgrade to a bedroom if one is available. Check with your Sleeping Car Attendant or...

    The Great Blizzard of 2011

We haven't gotten any snow here in Salt Lake City, Utah, but it has been very cold-current temp is 10 degrees. Hummingbird feeders are frozen solid again. Looks like The CZ #5 looks like it's on schedule to arrive on time (11:05pm). It usually arrives about 10:25pm. I hope everybody stays...

    'Parlour Car Fire'?

You guys had me worried there. I'd hate to see anything happen to the PPC's before they officially retire them. I'm shooting for a last run on them next year.

LD Train Travel Then vs now

Many people believe that parrots just repeat & do tricks, but ours understands & even makes up his own sentences. I don't 'teach' him words, he just picks up what we say. It can be pretty funny.

    Just coming aboard

In case you haven't seen this link yet, you may find it helpful to compare pricing for different days for your trip. All you need is the three letter codes to use it, as in CHI, PDX & SAC. We really enjoyed our rides on the Starlight!

So how bad IS room "A" on a Superliner?

I'm sure you will enjoy it anyway. But, if it becomes an issue, check with your SCA or the Conductor for any other open bedrooms. They may have a cancellation, & be able to move you to another room.

LD Train Travel Then vs now

I too am one that desires to shower/bathe daily. I understand that years back they may not have bathed as often, but from what I understand, the lack of access to indoor plumbing may have been the reason. I had a classmate in high school (1970s)whose family had moved from back east, and their...

    Just coming aboard

Book a roomette or bedroom, especially on the Coast Starlight. This gives you meals, beverages for free. The sleepers have a coffee station with coffee, juice, bottled water & sometimes fruit/snacks. They may also offer you a champagne split, too. The sleepers have showers, towels, etc. If you...

    Cuts from 20% to 30%

Thank you for pointing out that I'm a she. I thought I have made that clear, mentioning that I have a husband many times. I could post a picture, but it might break the camera. :giggle: I'm not prone to exaggeration on prices-for example, at the beginning of last year, the price for a 3...

    Cuts from 20% to 30%

Do you really care what I think the inflation rate is? Or are you just trying to pull my chain? The official inflation rate may show very low, but every time we go to the store, it costs more than it did last time. We pretty much buy the exact same things every time, so it's not like we're...
