Cross-America trip in June; will appreciate advice

Hello and welcome to the board! I would highly recommend a stop in Glenwood Springs, Co (GSC), instead of Salt Lake City. Much more fun, more reasonable arrival and departure times. Salt Lake is okay, but we sure enjoyed our visit to Glenwood. Across the street from the station is a nice little...

    Paying for sleepers

Anne, you have probably figured it out, but once you have signed up with Amtrak Guest Rewards, you can purchase up to 10,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards Points per year. There are other ways to collect points, such as the "Points for Shopping", located under the "Earn" link. Just remember to log into...

    Roomette vs. Superliner bedroom

You're welcome Anne. Enjoy your trip!

Why So Many Snobby "Roomette" People on Here?

June, I think it's great that you can physically handle riding in coach! I personally have no issues with coach other than I think we would both be in pain, and we really like the privacy too. As for roomettes, we did ride in them twice, and I agree the sway was weird. It's different in the...

    Paying for sleepers

It's really a combination of both. We have paid for the whole trip with cash, but since then, what we do is use the 'online Shopping Mall' on AGR, and accrue points that way. We are usually still shy some points, so then we buy those. Since we use the AGR Shopping Mall, really, we are still...

Why So Many Snobby "Roomette" People on Here?

I'm glad you have the C-PAP, and glad that you can use it on the train, but sad you have to use it. I was messing around too. Seriously, we have used RedCap at least 3 times, and plan on doing it this time, too. If I had a golf cart, and I could take it, I would give you a ride! Wouldn't that be...

Why So Many Snobby "Roomette" People on Here?

We can all have a golf cart, sweetie. It's called a 'RedCap". Save some champagne for me...

    Roomette vs. Superliner bedroom

Anne, Welcome to the board! You will be riding in Superliner, which has two floors. Your bedroom will be upstairs, to the left. If you want to know which one, they are labeled from the Coffee Station, starting with E, and working backwards from there, ending with A. Please don't post which...

Why So Many Snobby "Roomette" People on Here?

I guess I'm SSA too! All kidding aside, our story is a little more complex. Coach would work if- I could curtain off for privacy. Nobody wants to see me sleeping! Everyone had earplugs. We snore! If the chairs were completely flat. (Backs need flat beds.) It took 3 years to get us on the...

Amtrak ONLY Rail Transit to Not Allow Pets!

I agree with you, crescent2. We would face the same issues. And still, I assume that most here are discussing dogs and cats. I am talking about a very large, rather noisy parrot. Just because I may want to take my pet, doesn't mean I should, or that those around me would enjoy him being along. I...

Amtrak ONLY Rail Transit to Not Allow Pets!

Here is a list of what trains allow dogs-and their restrictions. http://www.pettravel.com/passports_europetrain.cfm

Amtrak ONLY Rail Transit to Not Allow Pets!

So lets start a 'wish list' 1. 'Kennel Car'?' 2. 'Hot Tub Car'? 3. 'Smoking Car'? I would be happy if there are enough Sleeper Cars, Dining Cars, Engines, and Baggage Cars to cover existing routes, although we can always wish for other things.

Packing Light for 10 days & No Laundry Facilities

Betty, Have you checked for laundromats at your destination? You have gotten a lot of good ideas here, I would suggest purchasing the eagle creek pack it system at Shoebuy.com. It should hold close to all of the clothes you would need, and is pretty small. The packing folder is supposed to hold...

Should we take the Long Distance Trains off of Amtrak's back

Interesting. I thought ridership has increased? Is that why we should get rid of LD Trains? Does anyone say this about LD flights? The airlines lose money, and get subsidies too. California is broke. Do we really think they would continue the Coast Starlight? I would be surprised if our state...

    Lost a Friend

Sorcha, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I know 'I'm sorry' doesn't quite cover it, but know that I am praying for you and his family and friends. May God fill you will His comfort and His perfect peace. I too, have recently lost a loved one, so I'm right there with you. Please feel...

Amtrak ONLY Rail Transit to Not Allow Pets!

Sorcha, what about staying in 'pet friendly' hotels along the way? That should be less stressful for you and them. You are right that some areas are getting weird about idling cars.
