Sounds like an open ticket is what you guys got in the past in this situation. OP could call AGR and ask if they will allow redemption for an open roomette ticket at the coach redemption rate. If the agent doesn't know, ask for a supervisor.

Yep, a one-block walk toward the water to Stearns Wharf is a nice way to kill about twenty minutes. There are a couple restaurants and an ice cream shop there, but as noted, there are many shops and eateries the other direction on State Street also. Enjoy SB!

That stretch is particularly difficult with regard to VZW data -- if your aircard is a 4G one, the advice given to set it to 3G preferred is a good idea. 4G is fast but north of Baltimore it is patchy until you get to Wilmington. Some of those aircards don't deal with the 3G/4G handoff very well.

If the BC attendant is nowhere to be found, just take your ticket stub to the cafe. A small bottle of wine is one of the allowed BC beverages. Note that only one beverage from the cafe is permitted for free.

It's safe even late at night. The BNSF freight "yard" is active 24/7 and there are usually some employees milling around. The train stops in the yard and you just follow the crowd past the BNSF buildings and onto the train. Just make sure you don't wait at the old "El Garces" Harvey House...
