Isn't that a downstairs roomette? I personally prefer downstairs rooms, but I know many who don't. It's to each their own when it comes to rooms.

You also would have people on the train with jars of peanut butter. I bring it because of a picky child, but it's also good because it needs no refrigeration. You are putting yourself into a very serious situation if your peanut allergy is severe.

I received in the mail a flyer offering me a "Boarding Bonus of Double Points" on all qualifying Amtrak travel between June 7- August 6. It also says these points are on top of any other current promotions. YAY!!

I would rather be prepared to pay then not have the money. And while you may be bold enough to put said page in their face, most are not. My advice still stands...go prepared to pay for the extra meal and if you don't have to then you have extra cash in your pocket.
