    Tunisia train video

While I accept that getting from O'Hare airport to Union Station can be a struggle, folk might like to compare that to buying train tickets in Tunisia... ;)

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

This video might give folk a flavour of Indian train travel. It is in Hindi, but one can use the "subtitles" button to translate most of the commentary into English, sort of... This Youtube channel has diverse Indian trips, he likes coach travel also. Always a happy chappy too! :D MUMBAI to...

Getting from O'Hare to Union Station

Certainly, I have cursed the stairs at ******* when carrying a large suitcase, but it's not too bad with a light load. From O'Hare, one is boarding an empty train at the start of the journey, so finding somewhere to keep light luggage is not much of an issue.

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

Nice to see, but a little surprised not to see any "green lights" shown by the platform staff? They seem a feature of most Indian train stations, either a flag or a lamp shown to passing trains. I will lay claim to the "King" also, having travelled on that too. ;)

Getting from O'Hare to Union Station

I am puzzled by the "smoking" issue? Why did folk suddenly start smoking on trains during Covid? (A novel "preventative" measure)? :(

    Amtrak Voucher questions

I am tending to agree with you about the tech today. I tried to use a different voucher, which is fully valid, as part payment for a train ticket, and the Amtrak site just dumped me back to start the booking afresh, multiple times. No explanation. I am used to Amtrak not being so great these...

Getting from O'Hare to Union Station

In my experience, it was a simple matter to grab CTA Blue line at O'Hare, and alight at *******. Not so great if you have a mass of suitcases, but easy enough otherwise. Riding "The El" was always an enjoyable rite of passage for me, arriving in Chicago.

    Amtrak Voucher questions

To be honest, the total amount of the vouchers is only low, so I don't feel that it is worth while phoning, etc. I got refunded for some train tickets, and a couple of vouchers for others, all were coach seats. I had a mini stroke back in Feb. this year, which has left me with slight ongoing...

    Amtrak Voucher questions

Sadly I had to cancel my visit stateside last Sept 2023. Just booking a replacement trip for this September. Anyone know how the voucher expiry dates work? I have a voucher which expires on 27th July 24, for a previously cancelled train ticket, but when I try to use it for this September, the...

Lucky guy to avoid that collision! Is it too early to have heard what caused the accident?

    Texas Eagle discussion H2 2024

The Venture cars seemed much more like the European style of train and seating, which I guess is understandable for "relatively" shorter daytime trains. Folk here in the UK complain of uncomfortable train seating too!

    Texas Eagle discussion

This Youtube video compares the new "Venture" cars, from St. Louis to Chicago, with the Texas Eagle in coach for the return. (I was sad to see all the waiting area seats are removed at Chicago Union Station, dunno if that is permanent)?

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

Gosh yes! I had a look and found the vlog. I noticed mention of "panni" once or twice. ;)

Rail service and travel by rail in India and Bangladesh

Your link seems to refer to December 2023 floods? I had always been torn between wanting to experience the amazing monsoon downpours, yet fearful of the reality of it being too much to cope with! Best left unexperienced now, at my age, methinks!

    Public ownership of railroads

I can never understand how if it costs 100 units to provide a correct service of anything, cover wages, repairs, etc, that pretending to provide the same level of service for less cost, and provide a profit for private owners, makes any realistic sense?

Which US airlines do you recommend for domestic service?

Sadly, that query was for 2023, probably not looking for luxury and highly customer-focused stateside just now. ;) :D:D

Transfer options at the end of the journey

As a tourist, I have always enjoyed my time in San Francisco, and felt sad to read your post above. Folk have different levels of comfort, especially overseas visitors, which can lead to us either naively "walking into trouble", or otherwise perhaps wondering what all the fuss was about? I...

    FUL-SAN Roundtrip on the Surfliner

Nice report. Like you, I love the San Diego Santa Fe station. The wall tiles inside, and the whole architecture. I also used to get irritated by the way passengers are made to wait in line to board in America, but now just accept that's how it (mostly) is...

Transfer options at the end of the journey

I always prefer public transport, but it can be difficult to get correctly orientated when first arriving. I have spent many happy times in SF on the trams, metro, and cable cars! Talking of luggage, we caused chaos on the free Emery-go-round bus with all our luggage during the rush hour one...

Transfer options at the end of the journey

I often struggle myself with that "last mile" to get from the train station. One can often look on google maps street view, and locate a nearby bus stop, and maybe zoom in and see if any bus there will be handy to travel to your destination. (The bus stop may have the name of the service...
