    The Dual modes planned for NY include units for MN, CDOT, LIRR and NY empire service the battery mode is only used if train is stuck in third rail gap . Each unit has 4200 hp in diesel and 4200 in third rail mode no units will be owned by Amtrak .

    Again my 30 years in passenger service may differ in opinion with yours , crews Can NOT just refuse cars . If they refuse cars outside FRA regulations it either be Union issue or they will loose .

    crews can not refuse cars , unless a safety issue is preventing them. and such are pretty limited other than FRA rules. some cars are operating in a few European countries so it seems unless this country has more idiots we have passed ***** threshold. Redirect Notice

    the MN dual modes are ordered and no they do not include a separate power battery unit.

    they can show anything in presentation but unless that power car is permanently coupled no power above 74 volt can be trainlined between the two units.

    a power car is pure ******** , FRA does not allow power in excess of 64 volt to go from one unit to other unless permanently coupled and only to be separated in shops. clue this s why married pair MU cars are coupled with drawbar.

    FRA pretty much rules , strobes or Ditch lights , they do prefer Ditchlights , Amtrak may not want to spend money on both.

    Keep in mind with new Locomotives the biggest failure is link between seat and throttle .
