At least it was hopefully a one off. However, more sleeper space was cancelled on March 30th on the westbound Capitol. They got a call offering a refund for the sleeper charge and a coach ticket. Someone I know was on the Capitol on March 30. He opted to fly.

This is something all advocates need to hear. When you lose a train, it may be gone forever or a really long time. Rock Island Quad Cities Rocket ended in 1978. We may get service back in a couple years. North Coast Hiawatha ended in 1979. It may come back in a few years.

You’re absolutely right. It’s completely broken. It’s so demoralizing. Moorman and Anderson were brought in to wreck the company. But all these decisions were made by Coscia and the incompetent board. They need to get rid of the whole lot of them.

I disagree. The worst thing you can do is turn business away. Better to use whatever you can get and pass out flyers apologizing for the substitute equipment which is what Amtrak did in the early years. Metra must have cars they could lease since ridership is way down.

That is ridiculous. That is not enough cars. What happened to the Horizon equipment that covered those schedules? In a pinch, they used to rent Metra equipment. Definitely not ideal, but the should not be turning riders away. The Milwaukee Road would use their gallery cars in a pinch as well.

Amtrak has a thruway bus that runs to several locations in Phoenix including Sky Harbor Airport. Just make sure you book it when you make your reservation.

I criticize Amtrak from time to time, but this just doesn’t matter at all. Even if it was tape and not a reflection.

Let me add to that all scheduled mechanical work and overhauls are done timely.

It’s right on the light rail and one stop from beautifully restored Union Station where one could have a drink. Alternatively, one could ride the light rail to Laclede’s Landing or the Cardinals Sports District. These are doable in one hour, so certainly possible.
