Amtrak's FY 2022-2027 Service and Asset Line Plans

Which incidentally puts them right into Via Rail's timeframe for long distance equipment replacement, as well! Very much coincidence, but likely potentially beneficial for all involved: the bidder (s), Amtrak and Via.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

Exactly. This sounds like some railfan created drama from message boards rather than something nearly as dramatic as being presented. Given Amtrak seems to have given up out-of-service testing (except Acela) the reality is new things will come in & out of service at the beginning of their...

The Canadian, "berths no longer available"?

I am seriously kicking the tires at taking a trip in October with Prestige. But to my surprise it's showing sold out, which seems a bit surprising. Any idea if these just haven't been added back yet to the sellable consist?

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Ha! I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't pay for a TrainOrders membership, but if you do the posts are surely still there from when the Genesis were coming online and many were calling them over-computerized junk that wouldn't succeed. Now that's unthinkable as they've been a reliable...

    VIA long distance fleet replacement

Oh I certainly share some of your cynicism. Hopefully, we're both being too cynical and something will work out here! My jaw pretty much hit the floor when I read that there was actually the first steps of a replacement project going on for the long distance equipment.

    VIA long distance fleet replacement

Via doesn't have procurement authority yet - right now they're basically in the step of testing the market so that the Corporation can develop a list of requirements for future cars. These requirements get approved by Via internally, and then in principal by the Federal Government. Following...

Nicely done YouTube video; I enjoy the content from this crew!

    VIA Ocean discussion

Didn't want to start a new thread. I don't see any HEP sleeper accomodation available in May 2022. Anyone know what's up with that? I may just call Via? Hoping to snag a cabin for 3!

    Canadian 1x Week extended

Sigh. I had four trips cancelled by this announcement. Did promptly receive a refund in fairness to Via. And I lacked confidence in Via anyways, so I had backup flights booked.

Video.....The Bi-directional Ocean on its way!

I will keep you posted on my reservation, I'm trying to keep a pretty tight eye on it as I obviously paid a pretty premium for that space. If I get downgraded, I will definitely look for some reimbursement! Just happy to get on the train in any event!

When are you going? That might be my fault 🤣

Video.....The Bi-directional Ocean on its way!

I'm pretty sure that the Chateau is "bookable" for passengers. I have a few trips booked in the drawing room, and was told yesterday that's still good to go.

VIA's Ocean will return on August 11 2021

Currently the consist for booking actually has a Park car. But that's likely to change and may in fact be an error. I have three tickets, and they're all for the Park car! No doubt that will become a Chateau though.

Dedicated Passenger Track in the Windsor - Quebec Corridor

This project quietly received a lot of funding a couple months ago and received an official announcement today: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/high-frequency-rail-project-1.6090930 This is not enough capital to finish the project, but it is enough capital to acquire a significant amount of...

    Fire impacts Coast Starlight (6/29/21)

On the day I'm writing this, as a function of population, 10% more Americans are fully vaccinated than Canadians. But 25% more Canadians have a single dose (which means 50% more Canadians have received a vaccination), and with a vaccination rate of almost 2% of the population per day, Canada...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Temporary paint scheme it will likely wear for over a decade, though. How Amtrak settled on two paint schemes for one order of locomotives for the same service is beyond me. They get a free pass for the anniversary one (although, unpopular opinion: I think the fleet would look better without all...

    Ocean: Large cabin for 2

Although I'm sure you aren't using the term capital in its literal sense, replacing carpet and wall paper certainly isn't a capital level project. Hopefully Via can run together some pennies for that if the Chateaus are finding full-time service again starting in August. I called Via yesterday...

    Ocean: Large cabin for 2

Thanks! I just looked and was glad to see a large bedroom on the Chateau. Are all the Chateaus still in very dated condition?

    Ocean: Large cabin for 2

Yes you're right! I've gone ahead and booked it, but, curious to see if there's actually a Park car in November? Via can't turn the train in Halifax anymore so needs to run bidirectional - I'm hoping the Park car stays on because of its amenities, and the fact Via let me book it as they're...

    Ocean: Large cabin for 2

Question for ya, although I might just phone Via. But Cabin A shows on their website as "for 3" but I don't see that as a booking option on any trip? I like the idea of a larger cabin, but, do not like the idea of not having a shower. Did you just shower in a Ren sleeper?
