In 2018, I traveled cross country from Florida to LA for a Panama Canal cruise. I planned my trip to arrive 2 days in advance - just in case. We arrived on time, but I did not spend 4 days worrying about missing my cruise. The 2 nights in a hotel were worth the peace of mind.
