Quite often, the bedrooms are sold out on the Silvers. If you really want a bedroom and there is one available now, I would call Amtrak and modify your reservation from roomette to bedroom. If you bid $500 and your bid is accepted, the bedroom will cost you an additional $500 above the amount...

I live in Florida and wear shorts year round even on the train (unless it is below 55 degrees outside). I dress for comfort always. I have been in the dining car and watched "dressed up" passengers drinking red wine or eating mashed potatoes and gravy get the food and/or drink all over them...

I do not think this is targeted, but it appears there is a 30k bonus offered now. A couple of weeks ago, it was 20k, which I think is the "normal" bonus. I do not know how often the 40k bonus is offered.

I have heard from a reliable source that today's 98 has a third sleeper. 9810 is a V1; 9811 and 9812 are V2s.
