    Modifying/canceling a reservation

Yes! I have done it a few times. However, you must only speak with a guest rewards rep by calling 800-307-5000; a rep in the general call center will likely not be able to do it. Hours are 8AM-8PM, and they are closed on holidays (like today). They also might want to move you into a different...

    Acela discussion

Is Alcohol served on morning Acela first class? I wouldn't expect beer, but maybe a morning cocktail (or two)? I remember I was in FC many years ago, and boarded at Newark around 11AM (northbound); was told by the attendant they don't break out the wine until lunch time (wine isn't really a...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Boston section question: What is the food situation like for sleeper passengers lunch westbound? Order off the cafe menu, or something else? Also, are the Boston Viewliners the newer or older models? Room 7 will be on what side of the train (westbound)? IIRC, the scenery west of Springfield has...

Superliner trains' removal and restoration of cars (2022-2023)

Great to hear about the 32 sleeper being able to be relied upon. How about the 31 sleeper on the Coast Starlight? I have it booked for April.

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Does anyone know the current climate in the lounge car for sleeper passengers? Is the section closest to the sleepers usable only for sleeper customers, or is it a "crew lounge"? Is it based on whatever the crew feels like on that particular run? The Amtrak website does indicate that sleeper...

Canceling vs modifying a ticket bought with points

Hey there, If I book a sleeper with points, and notice that the cost has gone down, can I call and get a refund for the difference? Or, do I have to cancel the reservation and rebook, thus incurring a 10% points penalty?

Catching the Sunset Limited from the Coast Starlight

I was considering doing this as I am making this exact trip soon. However, I am already ticketed into LAX. Do you think anyone would be adverse to me leaving the train at SBA instead? I think based on the arrival times I would also get dinner in the dining car prior to getting off!

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Does anyone know the “sweet spot “ for roomette pricing from NOL-NYP? I have a price of 499- should I grab it? It’s for April so I do have some time but don’t want to gamble too much.

    Coast Starlight discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Does anyone know how the sleepers are marshaled on the SB CS? What side are even/odd roomettes are?

    Coast Starlight discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

If travelling on SB Starlight and getting off at Santa Barbara, is there still time for dinner in the diner? Scheduled arrival time into Santa Barbara is 6:12.

City of New Orleans (train) discussion

What is the current consist of the CONO? Is there at least a cross country lounge car where sleeper passengers can eat without having to take back to their rooms?

Questions about Train 11 (Coast Starlight) to Train 2 (Sunset Limited) connection

Hello, I have some questions regarding the SB Starlight to EB Sunset connection at LAX: 1. Amtrak.com lets you book this as a connection, so I assume it is guaranteed. Is this a reliable connection? Does Amtrak have a contingency plan for passengers if the Starlight is late, such as a bus...

    Vermonter discussion

I’m taking a trip on the SB Vermonter from Bellows Falls to NYC next month. The system assigned seat 4a, the only single seat left. Does this seat have a decent view, or will I be looking at the window post?

    Crescent discussion

Does anyone know if the diner has returned at least as a "sleeper lounge'?

    Sunset Limited discussion

Dinner served on eastbound Sunset into New Orleans? This is probably a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure. Who knows what Amtrak tries to pull these days. I remember back in 2005 on the eastbound Lake Shore (when it still had a diner), the dining car served a "brunch" from...

    Typical Canadian consist in mid-April?

I also heard from another passenger who was on the train when it only had two domes that the coach skyline dome was also restricted to coach passengers. Seems bizarre- one dome for all sleeper passengers would seem inadequate- even in the off season.

    Typical Canadian consist in mid-April?

I am on the train as I write this and I can report that the additional sleeper skyline dome has returned. Having said that, my sleeper attendant did advise that the coach skyline dome is really only for economy. No matter; there’s enough room for everyone! Photo was taken from the park car.

    Typical Canadian consist in mid-April?

Did you see how many domes were on the train?
