Crescent roomette Hattiesburg to DC and back?

Going along with sleeper questions, are sleeping car attendants still making the beds and leaving the blankets in bags on top of the bed? Has anyone asked their attendant to make the beds with the blanket?

    Sightseer lounge on Capitol?

So are there any times there is NOT a Sightseer Lounge? I would think January-March is the slowest of slow travel seasons...

    Sightseer lounge on Capitol?

This may be posted somewhere else but what is the schedule for the sightseer on the Capitol? The timetable states it is available seasonally... I'm thinking of taking a February trip that may hinge on this. Also, I am correct in that the Boston sleepers have been restored to the Lake Short, right?

    Amtrak Autumn Excursion 2016 - 10/29 & 30 - Confirmed

I really hope they post the track and form an organized queue before 7:30- the sight of 500-600 people rushing to a posted track at 7:30 does not sound appealing. The past 3 years have been very organized with the "early birds" being rewarded with a spot closer to the front. If a track isn't...

    Amtrak Autumn Excursion 2016 - 10/29 & 30 - Confirmed

Just tried booking online; giving me an error message doesn't recognize the arrival station. Pretty sure I'm doing it correctly.

Need imput on New York-Cleveland Circle Trip

I am considering taking a NYP- Cleveland circle trip in a month. I have two possibilities in my mind and would like input. My return from Cleveland-NYP (Croton Harmon actually) will definitely be the Lake Shore in a roomette. Getting there I am considering either: 1. NYP-WAS-CLE (coach) 2...

    NEC Schedules need tweaking

We all know Amtrak has funding issues, but the sad fact is Amtrak is not using the resources it has for optimum scheduling, even in its pride and joy, the Northeast Corridor. Consider these examples: 1. Philadelphia- New York on a weekday morning. Considering the still normal time to start a...

    Amtrak's Shortest Train

Another mention was, back in 1999-2000 at least, the last Empire service departure from NYP. I believe it left around 11:45PM and consisted of a single Amfleet coach and engine. I can vouch for this as my dorm room overlooked the tracks and I remember seeing it go by.

    Amtrak Autumn Express 2015 (Oct 24 & Oct 25)

To my knowledge, the last time I parked at Albany (about 2 years ago) parking was a few bucks a day, a bit less expensive in a remote lot vs. the deck by the station. Years ago, at the old Albany/Renssalear station parking was free. Progress, you know...

    Amtrak's Shortest Train

Another honorable mention would be the Washington-Harrisburg section of the National Limited, which I believe in later years ran with an engine and single coach.

    Amtrak Autumn Express 2015 (Oct 24 & Oct 25)

I received an email from the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts that gave me the heads up... it did state that train would leave ALB first, then to SDY, then onto CP. Even so, one would hope they would block off a coach or two for SDY passengers, but who knows, this is Amtrak we're talking...

    Coast Starlight Business Class

As stated in prior posts and in the memo, it appears BC passengers will ONLY be able to access the PPC for wine tasting. Given that it is unlikely that many or all BC passengers will partake in this (many people have no interest in wine tasting) and that it is only for this event, I would think...

Night Owl on the Inland Route?

I was killing time on Wikipedia and came across the article for the Night Owl. In it, it states that a section of the Night Owl operated on the New Haven-Springfield-Boston Inland Route from April to October of 1992. I have not heard this mentioned in any other Amtrak history source that I have...

Status of El Garces hotel building in Needles

Back in 2008 or 2009, the owner of the wonderful La Posada hotel at the Winslow, AZ Amtrak station had attempted to purchase this building and perform a similar restoration. According to Wikipedia, this deal fell through due to an issue with the Federal Transit Administration...

    July 1st Service Change Recap

Agreed. The food is not the worst problem; it's the layout of the cars. Some tables have no window next to them, and another 2 person table faces a blank wall. Also on the Cardinal trip I took back in 2010 (granted it may have changed), one of the tables with a window was used for plate...

    Amtrak lounge car complaints, redacted

If one had such a hearing issue and was travelling alone, or with a similarly effected companion, they would be unable to hear ANY announcements regarding ticket taking or cafe openings, and therefore may travel into the cafe car (or anywhere else on the train) and still run the risk of missing...

    Amtrak lounge car complaints, redacted

Why is it whenever I post something on this forum criticizing the way Amtrak does things, someone always has to defend Amtrak's ridiculous policies? The sad part is that they probably aren't really policies; they are the wishes of whatever crew one has the (mis)fortune to draw on their...

    Amtrak lounge car complaints, redacted

Once again an example of "is this train being run for the passenger or for the convenience of the crew?"

    dinner on the Cardinal

That has always irked me. There has been more than one time I have experienced a dining car announcement that excludes coach passengers. Either an announcement isn't made in coach, or the announcement specifically says "sleeper passengers only". Isn't their money as good as anyone else's? Or...

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Saw LSL 49 racing up the Hudson about 15 min south of Pougheepsie, running about 80 min late (of course). It had the new baggage, Indianapolis diner, and 3 Viewliner sleepers; a true glimpse into the future.
