    Midwest Venture introduction

Some airlines also measure the size of the seat cushion instead of the width between the arm rests. Once you figure in the arm rests, that can easily knock off an inch or so.

I love that the arm rests can be raised.

Why Do You Tip on Amtrak? [Poll]

I completely forgot mine had switched over. My electric, gas, and water are all uploaded to their respective servers rather than someone coming out.

Why Do You Tip on Amtrak? [Poll]

Some of those are not allowed to accept tips, though. A Walmart employee once helped me bring a bookcase out to my car and load it. When I tried to offer him a tip, he said they weren't allowed to accept them. I do give my mailman and garbage man a Christmas gift. Meter readers are not taking...

Shooting onboard Amtrak in Lees Summit, MO

My city has it, but I'm in a large-ish city. I don't think it's possible in rural areas yet.

This is pure hyperbole. Someone was stabbed on the Blue Water a few years ago, and nothing changed.

Maybe no cellphone coverage is not always a negative for Amtrak?

Are you seriously making fun of people for trying to do their job? Many people work while commuting.

Amtrak can be so good and so bad - all in one day!

Thank you for doing this. :) I wish more people did. Also, I've encountered those errors with other websites, and it's so irritating to lose all of your writing. Several years ago, I started writing everything in a Word doc, and then I copy/paste over to the website. That way, if I lose it, I...

Thoughts on The Zephyr in January...

Detroit has a direct train to Chicago that arrives well before the connection to the Zephyr. Detroit also has an airport with direct flights to Denver.

    This is a fabulous idea.

St. Paul, Milwaukee, Chicago (TCMC) second daily service

They don't, but it has to be SUPER cold. :) The last time I heard of them having issues, we'd had negative temps for a while. They tend to fail when we're deep in a Polar Vortex.

    Lamy Station destaffed again

If someone has a carrier other than those three, they may experience issues. That doesn't mean there is "no cell coverage", though. :)

Minnesota's weather is similar to Michigan's and Wisconsin's. It'll be fine.

    Lamy Station destaffed again

To be fair, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T all have LTE voice coverage in Lamy. Source: Mobile LTE Coverage Map Whenever we traveled to Albuquerque, we'd call my boyfriend's dad as soon as we stopped in Lamy so we could give him an ETA, and that was back in 2011-2016.

How Often Does This Happen: trains over 24 hours late?

Someone on Reddit posted that their son is on #7 that left Chicago on 1/7 (I believe). They stopped at Minot and then decided to head back to Chicago. If I were on that train, I'd get off in Minot, Fargo, or MSP and fly from there.

    The big map

We were stuck for several hours just outside of Las Vegas, NM once. Unfortunately, the rooms were sold out, so we were stuck in coach for that trip. They passed around snack packs and water and told us our locomotive was disabled. We were waiting for another to arrive. They did keep us posted...
