    How Hot is a Roomette?

It really just depends. I've always found them to be cool in the summer, if not bordering on cold (and I say that as a Michigander). Some people need a light jacket or cardigan if they are sensitive to cold. I did have one trip where the windows faced south most of the day, so the rooms on that...

    Worst non-Amtrak transportation experience

You know how people post videos of turbulence, and there's always that one person chilling with their book while everyone else loses their mind? That's me. I'm the person reading my book and trying not to laugh (roller coaster laugh, not laughing at others' anxiety). Turbulence adds variety to...

    Railroad crossing accidents

I seriously hope you aren’t addressing me. 🤨

    Railroad crossing accidents

Oh gosh, yes. You can't turn left on red onto a two-way here either. You can turn left onto a one-way from a one-way OR two-way street, though. As for a right on red, that can be done from a one-way or two-way onto a one-way or two-way, provided there isn't a "No Turn on Red" sign.

    Railroad crossing accidents

True. Best to check provincial/state traffic laws. :)

    Railroad crossing accidents

Many people (in my experience) don't know that you can also turn left on red, provided you are turning onto a one-way street.

    Railroad crossing accidents

It's really not so bad once you've done it a couple times. :) It prevents left turn congestion at busy intersections. You mostly see them in the larger cities. This is what the signs look like, indicating the path you need to take. I couldn't figure out why this one looked so familiar, and then...

And then there’s the infamous “Michigan Left”:

SWC and TE trip in bedroom

Is the Sightseer Lounge open, or are they still restricting use to ensure social distancing?

Eliminating open-plan seating and having all cars be compartments

Or, rather than retrofitting all of the coaches to accommodate a few annoying people, you could book a Quiet Car (if available), let the conductor know someone is being disruptive, or wear headphones. I'm sympathetic, as I hate loud cell phone talkers too, but I really don't see how creating...

Amtrak unveils new 50th Anniversary units & Phase VII paint scheme

Today I learned those are railroad tracks. 😄

Eliminating open-plan seating and having all cars be compartments

How do you see this working on the busy corridor trains (NEC, Michigan Services, etc.)?

    Railroad crossing accidents

I have yet to see a news article that blames the train.

    United Flight 328 DEN-HNL 777 Feb 20, 2021 UEF ✈

Thank goodness no one was hurt. Hopefully, the homes that were damaged weren't damaged TOO badly.

    Should Amtrak allow smoking again?

No, you missed my point about prohibition in general and took it to mean I was referring to SECONDHAND effects, which I was not, but I’m tired of trying to explain it to you.

    Should Amtrak allow smoking again?

You missed my point too. Please read my responses to Qapla on the same issue.

    Lounge in Chicago

Hence the ~ mark to indicate approximately 330 feet. ;)

    Lounge in Chicago

Ooh, that means I was close when I said a half-block from the lounge to the gates. :) I meant half of a Chicago "long block", which works out to ~330 feet.

    Should Amtrak allow smoking again?

This is STILL not the same thing. When I pick up a bullet, I don't expect to put my health at risk because of something unknown in that bullet. Once they realized lead was leeching out of bullets, they changed them. When I pick up a pack of cigarettes that have warning labels all over them...
