    World’s shortest commercial flight

Do flight attendants hate those flights since you are paid for time spent flying? Or does it come out in the wash since you can get more legs in one day?

Transport Security, CBP Inspection, and State Alcohol Laws

There are two issues here with international arrivals: 1) Clearing immigration/customs; 2) Exiting the airside section of the terminal even if connecting to another flight. All airports require you to do the former. Not all airports require you to do the latter.

Transport Security, CBP Inspection, and State Alcohol Laws

It was quite obvious what the OP meant. They were looking for airports where you do not have to exit the airside area and then re-clear TSA security when you transfer to a connecting flight.

Transport Security, CBP Inspection, and State Alcohol Laws

For major hubs? Just thinking off the top of my head - Atlanta and Dallas are. Not Chicago or New York JFK.

    Midwest Venture introduction

I am curious as to how comfortable those seats are.

    European Overnight Trains

I am fortunate enough to get four weeks per year - but those days are still precious to me!

    World’s shortest commercial flight

I once flew a 26 mile flight from Hyannis, MA to Martha's Vineyard. The pilot, in his briefing, welcomed us to our "transatlantic" flight.

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023H1)

The way the numbers are trending bodes well for the resumption of full service in March.

And don't forget Rome. It's everywhere there.

The future of Amtrak and the long distance trains

There is one simple reason why I do not believe the conspiracy theories saying that Amtrak is trying to eliminate long distance trains: politics. Why on earth would Amtrak, a federally funded organization, want to lose the support of the all of the members of congress from the states that would...

    European Overnight Trains

I take the opposite approach. An overnight train does two things for me: 1) It saves on a night in a hotel. 2) It allows me to travel when I am sleeping, which means that my daytimes can be used fully for sightseeing. When you have precious few vacation days, it's nice not to have to lose a...

    Mask requirements on Amtrak

By the technical reading of the rule, a mask is required in a sleeper. In practice, you are allowed to be mask-free in your sleeper compartment. This reflects the reality that nobody knows what you are wearing if the curtain is closed.

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023H1)

Maybe it has more to do with no cafe car available to the coach passengers.

    Business or Coach

Is this true outside of the NEC, Carolinian, Palmetto and Vermonter?

Questions regarding Southwest Chief and Sunset Limited

According to Amtrak's website, free overnight parking is available at Lamy.

    Business or Coach

The foot traffic is pretty much just the Boston sleeper car passengers going to the dining car. On the other hand, you are closer to the horn than the New York coaches are.

    Business or Coach

If you are traveling as a couple, the only real advantage of business class on the Lake Shore Limited is the more secluded space and free beverages. The seat pitch isn't much different (perhaps even worse?).

    What should Amtrak change?

I wonder what the legality of this would be. Nobody owns the air, so it was easy for the government to step in and take control of dispatching aircraft. And presumably airports welcomed air traffic controllers on their property for ground operations. (To complicate things, some smaller...

    What should Amtrak change?

Thus my comment... Amsterdam Schipol is exactly what I had in mind. Whether or not we have the public will to do it is another question. But my statement stands - if we genuinely want to eliminate air travel along the NEC we need much better rail connections to the airports. That issue...
