    Cardinal discussion

If there were easy to find numbers for the train stations I wonder if it would be possible for a station agent to pass along a note. Maybe Charlottesville or something like that where the station is staffed and busy enough that the train is at the station for a few minutes and there might be...

Not related to an article but Timken sure did spend on advertising for their tapered roller bearings. I wish I would have remembered when they started advertising but Timken and and AAR are guaranteed advertisements each issue and have been. I am in the 1956 issues right now for reference.

    Bid Up questions and experiences

Once you bid you can modify up or down. I think I did that 3 times over Memorial Day.

I want to compare the cost of riding that in coach and a roomette versus the cost of walking with a tent to pitch but having to either shop for food or eat in restaurants. 93 meals would be some amount of money and I would need some warm food at times so need to deal with propane and grill and...

    US Open Special

I saw a video on another social media site that starts with an F and ends with the letter k.com and for test run it was the usual Piedmont equipment but the ACWR had their own dome car as part of the consist as well. I assume there is some sort of revenue sharing. Maybe Amtrak is hauling the...

    US Open Special

I have to admit I am surprised Rail Division is doing this. A happy surprise, but surprised. A shame they can't also had a temp stop in Sanford just to see demand, even if tickets sell out at Raleigh, Amtrak can certainly (I would hope) track people putting in Sanford as an option for a...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion Q4 2023 - 2024 H1

On the 79 Carolinian on 27 May 2024 and the train was packed as is the norm for a 3 day weekend. I think the total number of passengers was around 150% of seat count with people one and off along the way. Maybe 200% of seat count. Being sold out we did not have an option for either an upgrade...

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

On the Carolinian 79 we had to slow to 40 MPH due to a tornado warning. And there were was enough rain to leak through the vestibule it still did not clean the windows to a level to satisfy most.

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

We were on 20 on Saturday and I thought the windows were not that bad. We waved a few times while in a station. No one ever waved back. So they could not see in due to dirty windows. Or it would seem the people were very rude and envious of us being on the train. The windows were not...

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

We won the Bid-up. Rooms were going for over $500 when I last checked for our leg of the trip. I noticed our bid was listed as poor so I raised it $20 to make it "Fair" during supper just to be safe. That will be 4 flex meals which is all we got heading to NYC last summer. For the cost of not...

A few hours ago there were two open rooms and now we are back to one room left. So some chance I guess to win the bid-up. $498 is step for a 6 hour ride so might have to enjoy the ride with the hoi polloi. We will decompress in the lounge if it comes to that.

I would think July-August-September would be the last quarter but regardless your thoughts make sense that they have to plan for quarterly expenses and funds from the government.

Is there a reason Ashland, VA is not listed for the Carolinian along with Silver Service? I guess the question could apply to the Palmetto as well.
